I looked at it a little differently, the premise to me seems to be "All of these schools have more to gain by finding a way to stay together than they ever would by breaking apart."

Football in the Big East has taken a hit, the only way to ease some of that pain was to go far out of its geographic footprint to create something of value to bring to TV. BBall took an even bigger hit, but Temple and Memphis bring enough bball wise regionally to offset Pitt and SU bolting. If the BBall onlies want to push for a split, and it will only happen if THEY push for a split, they better prepare themselves to become like St. Joes, and George Washinton. Yeah, you sit in nice markets, but no one will give a .

I've been dead set against a grant of rights thing, because I didn't think it was what's best for UConn, but logically, I think the next commissioner's first step will be to sell the schools on the idea. Those that don't want to sign it, could wait out their invitations to the Big 12 or ACC as an independent. Good luck with that. At the very least they need a much higher exit fee.

The Big East still has value as a TV entity, but any more defections and this thing will probably fall apart real fast.

I think the Big East has a window of about 2 months to get its act together. I think FSU and Clemson are going to be deliberate about leaving the ACC, and nothing will happen until the playoff structure gets more clarity, which may not be until the end of June.

Everyone has ideas for what should happen in this window. I think the current Big East remains UConn's best realistic outcome, and I think it would behoove everyone to sell Louisville on that. If a GoR is what it takes, do it.

Does it make sense for the BE to negotiate separate TV contracts for FB and basketball? That way the decision as to whether to accept a contract would only be made by the schools that play the relevant sport. Or why should a non-FB school like Georgetown have anything to say about BE football?
