Chicago Recommendations

I am bringing the family to Chicago in August to finally catch a game at Wrigley. I have never been to Chicago so was wondering if anybody has any recommendations on areas to stay/avoid, things to do, and restaurants? My kids eat everything and would rather octopus than mac and cheese so any food does not have to take a normal kids taste into account. We are flying in to Midway not O'Hare.
