+ Offensive playcalling, while not terribly imaginative, was very good. I love the play-action passes with a QB who throws a decent intermediate ball and tight ends that can get open. The screens were called at sensible times and the run / pass ratio was solid. We wore down Nova tonight. Big upgrade at OC this year IMO.

+ Bryant Shirreffs. Doesn't throw a pretty ball but had a good feel in the pocket, escaped pressure beautifully and made good decisions. We have a keeper.

+ Newsome. Really good player without question.

+ Defensive line. Generated good pressure all night and largely dominated on runs up the middle.

+ Secondary. Locked down their receivers and provides some support vs. the run.

- O-Line. They got some push when they needed to (on the TD run, at the end of the game as they salted the game away) but Shirreffs covered for their pass protection issues and the run blocking was often abysmal.

- Linebackers. Stewart struggled massively with angles and Vann was alarmingly quiet.

- Mind boggling unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Are you ****ING KIDDING ME with this ??!?

- Blocked extra point. Cannot happen in the 4th quarter of close games.

- Kickoff returns and coverage units. Thoroughly outplayed here by an FCS team that theoretically should have less depth than we do. Major concern.

Must win game vs. Army next week. We win that and hopefully we have wind at our sails before a brutal road stretch. Lose...and the season can quickly spiral out of control. Nice that we can enjoy watching some college football this weekend without worrying about our team though!
