Chart: The nation’s most improved teams in TO margin, red zone and 3rd down…
Great improvements, let's end up on the most improved 3rd down conversion defense list next year.
Found this link to see where we stacked up for everything, really interesting:
http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/21
Interesting Items:
- Boston College had the #1 total defense and #4 scoring defense last year, in the country. Michigan is getting a good one in Don Brown, and he's taking over a very good defense (#4 in total D). Wish we could have held on to him.
We came in at a respectable 33 in total D and 15 in scoring D. Marshall was 10 in scoring and 35 in total, so we didn't hit a brick wall offensively against a nobody defense.
- Cincy was #6 overall in total offense, right in between Oregon and Oklahoma. Not surprised they moved the ball at will on us after seeing that. Only game this year were we really got it handed to us defensively. They were only 38 in scoring offense in comparison, so had some trouble getting the ball in the end zone.
You also saw the progress our team made, and how much we like playing at home, when we held the #20 total offense and #10 scoring offense in check when we played Houston. I know they were missing their starting QB, but I will take the victory
Memphis was also #19 in total and #11 in scoring: Bottom line, being in the AAC is no excuse for having a bad offense.
We checked in at #121 in scoring and #123 in total. If we just creep to the middle of the pack next year I think we will have a season to remember.
