I was driving home down I 385 yesterday after a round of golf at Connecticut National in Putnam (first time there and liked it a lot) when we backed up for a short stretch next to where a really bad looking trailer accident had shut down the other side. I can't believe the trucker had only minor injuries. Anyway, it turns out the load that had spilled all over the road were hundreds of boxes of Veuve champagne. There was a payloader just scooping them up for whatever fate. No free samples.
Oddly, on our side of the road, in the right lane, there was a man on a stretcher and our right lane was closed as well. Assuming the man was injured in the accident, I don't know why they would have taken him 4 lanes across the road and then blocked off a lane in the opposite direction. According to news articles, the champagne truck was approaching a construction lane closure, didn't pull over, and rammed the rear of a State highway dept truck.
