Central Michigan really took it to Michigan State, going toe to toe for about 33 minutes before a calamitous scoring drought in mid-4Q sank their chances.

Frankly it was closer than I expected it to be. MSU is improved over last year, and CMU, in the post-Hudson and Frost era, is just not as strong, although Kelly is certainly a force.

MSU isn’t incredibly sizey, but I think part of the issue here was CMU’s inability to really compete inside. CMU’s starting power forward shot 12 threes—when’s the last time you saw that?

CMU, like a number of other mid-major and P5 programs, tends to live and die by the three. They lived by it for 33 minutes tonight and died by it thereafter.
