I love this snippet from Geno.

"Stewie pretends like she's humble and nice and kind and would rescue cats from trees," he said. "That's the impression she wants you to have. She walks out on court, and she's doesn't look like Maya. She's not built like a great player. So everything about her is deceptive, including the fact that all of us see a different side of her."

Last year someone used this line, which I think is appropriate. And someone stole it and used it on TV a couple of days ago. It involved a debate about UConn greats and someone, like bags27, brought up Mt. Rushmore. Someone retorted: "I think UConn needs more than one mountain." That's how I look at it.

Wikipedia:
Bear Mountain...
is the highest mountain summit in the state of Connecticut. The highest point in the state, however, is located on the south slope of Mount Frissell 1.3 miles (2.1 km) to the west at 2,379 feet (725 m).

As Roy Scheider said in Jaws: I think we're going to need a bigger boat....

I think the best player in UCONN history is....... (drumroll please)

All of them :p I could never choose any over the other.. I can't even pick a favorite... I get flustered when they play against each other in the WNBA, because I don't know who to root for...

They are all great in my eyes... that will never change... :) woot :)

Can the highest point ever be on the slope of of a mountain? Wouldn't it always be the summit?

I really enjoyed this article. It is loaded with great quotes. Sue Bird makes a great observation:

"My standard line on this is that it's hilarious that the only way she's going to separate herself is if she wins four titles," Bird said of Stewart. "Which speaks to how amazing a lot of the players have been over the years."

In the end, I think that Jeff Jacobs got it right in saying that Stewart is the best player, but Taurasi was the most valuable.

Wikipedia: Mount Frissell, 2,454 feet (748 m), located on the border of southwest Massachusetts and northwest Connecticut, is a prominent peak of the Taconic Range.
The peak and northern part of the mountain are located within Massachusetts, while the southern slope of Mount Frissell is located within Connecticut and rises to the highest elevation within that state, 2,379 feet

this would make a great trivia question!

How could CD pick DT when all DT wants to do is to mock CD? ( Wish I could cut a section of the "queen of interview" and paste it here that has DT mocking CD. It's so cute and hilarious.

When Taurasi's teams won in 2003 and 2004, did she have any All Americans playing with her? Don't think so.. Taurasi would have four Championships if UConn had not had TWO All Americans go down to injuries.
Of course, if Dee hadn't gone something like 0-11 in the second half of the semis against ND, they likely still would have had that NC as well....and Muffet would still be searching for her first....

Breanna probably can do more than any other player. But, I'll say this, if I had to pick one player in WCBB history with whom to start a team, it would be DT. Without even having to think.

Kinda similar to what Jacobs is saying I think.

I think that's pretty much everyone's default position, because Dee completely engages everyone, teammates and coaching staff. No one can have any downtime when Dee's around. She takes up a lot of oxygen and yet is incredibly gracious about spreading the cheer and praise. Every practice, every game is exciting because of her. Announcers called her name with the same sense of lyrical magic as when they called Michael Jordan's name. The game became her personal drama, and her teammates totally believed in her. No one else in WCBB has ever had those intangibles.

Why Taurasi, not Stewart, is UConn's greatest player

Looks like CD puts Dee first. This whole thing, I realize, is tiresome. All three are on our Mt. Rushmore, and we'd all kill for Dee, Maya, or Stewie for the next 4 years. Because, any one of them, plus what's coming back next year is just too amazing. My brain is exploding just contemplating that!

Diana was a very special player in UConn lore. In many fan's eyes, she sits alone atop UConn's Mount Rushmore. There are some folks that think no matter what, she is, and will always be the best...............period.
I'm not going to suggest by any means that they are wrong. Its their opinion, and they have a right to it.

I respect their opinion. Dee was a transcendent player. She checked all of the boxes. I'm not talking about her after college success. That has no bearing on this conversation. We're only talking about what she did at UConn. That's the only criteria we're using here.

Some folks what to incorporate championships in their formula of determining who is the most dominant, or the best player ever to done a UConn uniform. To others, that has no bearing on determining who is the best. CD has been there the hole time. She's seen them all.

CD can be objective since she has no skin in the game. She can objectively look at them from a coach's perspective and give an honest assessment of their contribution and over all importance and impact on the program. That's a perspective none of us have. Query: Is it really important to Breanna to be recognized as the "best ever" to play at UConn? Or to be recognized as the best to play during her era (which she has been) in WCBB?. I wonder.

I think Stewie doesn't give it a second thought... Not that girl that signed her LOI on the hood of her car... She only cares about basketball and the people she loves... I'm glad I was fortunate enough to enjoy watching nearly every game in the past four years :) I wish they had a WNBA app for Apple TV or Roku... that would be sweet :)

Great article by Michelle Voepel. Of course we probably all have our favorites and they are our favorites for different reasons. As CD and Doris Burke mentioned in their opinions Dee won two Championships with a much lesser cast of teammates than Stewie currently has. It's just great to be a UConn fan and get into discussions/arguments over which of 3 different UConn players is the greatest. We are blessed.

I'll take the All-Time leading scorer in team's history and the only 4-time First Team All American in school's history. The Oscar Robertson of Women Basketball -Maya Moore.
