Terrific article with great quotes. This one stood out to me the most: “She has to become more physical. The game is not a finesse game. It’s a physical (game),” Dailey said. “You saw Notre Dame for one, you look at the Texas post players, you look at post players across the country, it’s physical. That’s something that we have to get better at. Amari has to embrace the physicality of the game of this level.” Makes total sense to me. There are some players who will always be on the finesse side of the spectrum (ONO for example), BUT those players HAVE to be able to play and excel against other physical players. The same holds true for finesse guards. Even Paige - she got pushed around as a freshman, in spite of a great season, and has worked her but off on getting stronger and playing thru contact. So it sounds like not only is Amari working on getting stronger, but also on the mental side of embracing physical play. That's gotta be tough for a big who has never played that way before. Gives me a much better understanding of her challenges, but it also sounds like she has a great attitude, and we know she's at the right place to help her get to the best place she can be at as a player. It's not like she would fare better at a different school. Post players are physical whether you are a top team, mid-major, or a lower echelon team. Just look at the slug fests with ECU and UCF in the American in the past. But she has one of the most infectious-ly positive attitudes on the bench, and I am rooting for her BIG TIME!! Go Amari!!!
