CBS Sports: Sorting out national championship contenders by tiers

This will be a classic Hurley-coached UConn team that has depth and size and can score it both inside and out. Hurley has also vowed this team will defend (at the very least he expects it will do so better than last year). This program is a monster right now. And on top of the elite talents, those inside the walls -- frighteningly -- seem more driven than ever to make a push toward another title. I'm buying stock in the "best coach in 'n sport" and in the carefully-crafted roster he has put together. Championship No. 7 for the Huskies is very much in play.

What simulation model is this? Duke the first overall seed? UConn a 3 seed? They can take that model and shove it. 😀

College basketball season is here, and our first CBS Sports Bracketology simulation of the 2025-26 campaign paints an interesting picture of what to expect in the months ahead. Topping the charts as the No. 1 overall seed in the initial model is Duke.

Michigan is looking really good this year. they have a skilled 7’3 center, A bruiser 6’9 250 power forward with good post moves, another 6’9 forward who can shoot lights out and was projected to be 1st round pick if he went pro last year(uab transfer), and a whole bunch of athletic guards that can drive and shoot 3s. They have like 6 guys shooting around 40% from 3 in early season.

Sheer laziness.....can throw Duke up there as the #1 overall seed in just about every year and not look "wrong". Until they actually play the games, that is.

Which is why for the zillionth time I can't understand why anyone even cares, no less worries, about this crap. We've never been in the anointed group and we never will be. We will just keep piling up ACTUAL hardware while Duke can post all the "#1 overall seed" rankings they received in December.

We kind of are at this point though, aren't we?

This was some kind of statistical model that simulated the season. Who knows what's in the algorithm but it wasn't anyone's opinion so no bias against UConn. Just a bad statistical algorithm. 😀

Either is Kentucky. I wonder how Trotter is feeling now about his prediction that they will win the national championship.

BBN is already getting frustrated with Pope and that team. It sounds dumb, but they might have too many players. They go like 11 deep, so I wonder if there are continuity/chemistry issues.

But also this was posted early November - before a lot of games were played and for us Mullins arrival vs Kansas.

CBS outta be updating this every week.

National Championship contenders really have one tier as of right now. There are 11 teams. Outside but knocking on the door are Vanderbilt, Houston, Mich State, Florida, Tenn, UNC, St Johns.

Not sure I'd have Kentucky in there. the rest seem legit. Flop them with Houston, who Kelvin will get ready by EOY. I'd also toss Bama in there. Their defensive stats will always stink based on their style.

Kentucky's KP metrics have them as a contender for now.

Alabama isn't winning anything. Pretenders. I watched them the other night and they don't even try on defense half the time. They're solely focused on getting the ball and putting up a quick shot. Tough to win so many games just trying to outscore other teams.

Kentucky maybe if Lowe and Quaintance come back and the chemistry improves quickly. If not, they are toast, a bubble team.

IDK - something feels really off about that squad, to the point bringing in players doesn't seem like the fix. Especially one coming off injury late in season already being mocked as a lottery pick.

Look at our team on EvanMiya.com and Ross is better offensively and defensively than Reibe. Just sayin'....

OMG, poor CBS, they have no idea what they're talking about, for the most part.
The poster resurrected this from November 2. Before the season started. So at that time I can see why they put the teams in Tier 1 that they did. Today after seeing a month of games it would be different.

Does Duke put up banners for #1 overall seed in first bracket projections or just for #1 in final polls?
