Caroline participating in warmups vs Creighton

What I’m wondering is whether she’s covered by the old policy, 5 years to complete 4 years of eligibility, or is that incorrect?
She took a redshirt in 2023-2024 and whether or not she plays this year she only has one year left. That would be the 5 to play 4. The Covid year (2020-2021) players like Aubrey have 6 to play 5.

A college athlete would typically be granted a 6th year of eligibility to complete 4 years of play if they experienced significant disruptions to their athletic career due to a serious injury, medical condition, military service, a life-altering family situation, or a pandemic like COVID-19, which would require the NCAA to grant a waiver in most cases; essentially allowing them to compete for an extra year beyond the standard 5-year eligibility window to complete their four seasons of play. Caroline would certainly qualify should she wish to do so. Of course this would mean she could not play at all this season.

If anyone knows anything about medical redshirts and transfers, it would be Zaay Green at Alabama Crimson Tide. She’s been through a rash of injuries and transfers through her career. Began the 2018-19 season at Tennessee.

I hope this means something, if not today, in the near future. That kid deserves some good news. We are all pulling for her.
I know it’s a stretch because she’s been out so long, but if she played like she did her freshman year when Paige got hurt, then she helps this team enormously.

Didn’t Jamie Carey have a couple years extra due to transfer and concussions?

Carey played one year at Stanford, and then sat two years. Then she transferred to Texas, whose doctors were willing to clear her to return to the court when the Stanford medical staff would not. She went on to play three seasons there. So she played four years over a total of six years. Had to get a waiver from the NCAA for that sixth season.

In addition to her concussion problems, she also had a very serious ankle injury at Stanford that would’ve kept her out for a season by itself.

Yes, this goes hand in hand with what I said above. So, if Caroline has the desire to do so, this is available to her. Regardless of how badly I want to see her back on the court, I just hope she thinks long and hard about it.

I am going to post my theory again. The goal with Caroline is to have her ready to play a couple of minutes on senior night.
Put a pin in this one, as I think there's some logic to it (notice I didn't say truth). If so, whatever happens for the remainder of the season is what it is.

Yes yes yes

I think she would get a medical exception for a sixth year if she does not play this year. You never know, though.
It is extremely likely. About the only time they have not given someone a 6th year is when one of the years was not due to injury, i.e. taking a voluntary red shirt or having to sit out a transfer year.

I believe that she'll be back but IDK if it will be this year or next.
She has a dream to fulfill & maybe she'll want to come back next year & play again with Azzi & Ayanna too.
I believe that Azzi will be back but even if not that's just another reason for Carol to continue working on her UConn career.
Her UConn BB career isn't over until it's over.

Caroline can get last year (2023-24) back on a medical. The school would have to apply for the waiver

If she does not play at all this year she would have this year as well. If she does put in an appearance in the senior game as some has opined, she would lose this year.

Caroline has at least one year left (medical waiver), and possibly two years.

I would love her to play but I would be shocked if she does. Her condition seems serious based on the level of contact that gave her problems last season. I am perfectly happy with her being just an observer if it gives her the best shot of a healthy life.
I agree, having to wear ear protection on the bench doesn’t lead me to believe that she is competition-ready.
