As promised the first installment of a look at career stats and the record book for the seniors:
As a class they hold a few NCAA records and Uconn records:
151 career wins - most for a class in NCAA history (either gender.)
24 NCAA wins - most wins for a class and consecutive wins in NCAA history (either gender)
4 NCs - most wins for a class or individual player in NCAA history (either gender)
122-1 Best record with only one loss (either gender)

For Moriah - cumulative stats:
Games played: 155 (118) - #2 in games played (Kalana 157) #1 for four year player.
Minutes played: 4120 -
Points: 1532 - #22 (Maya 3036)
Shooting: 608-1106
Shooting %: .550 - #11, is the #1 guard (Tamika .703)
3 Pt shooting: 159-379 - #14 in made three pointers (KML 398)
3 Pt %: .420 - #4 (Sue .459)
FT shooting: 157-192 -
FT %: .818 - #5 (Sue .892)
RBs: 406

TOs: 249
A/TO: 2.65 - #1 (#2 is Sue at 2.11)
Blks: 24
Steals: 353 - #2 (Nykesha Sales 447!)

NCAA record most tournament games played 24

Individual season highlights:

Assists - 204 this year becoming fourth player with 200+ in a season joining Sue 231, Jen 222, and Diana 208.
Assists - only player with more than one season of 175+ assists (191, 195, 204)
3 Pt % - #2 for a season at .496 to Sue's .497 - also has the 13th best season percentage .431
Steals - third player to record 2 or more seasons with 100+ steals with two such seasons join Nykesha (3) and Rita (2)
Steals - has the #4 and #8 best seasons for steals

Sure I have missed a few things, and cannot find cumulative totals for NCAA individuals in tournament play where she probably ranks quite highly.

All alone on the 24 tourney games, right? I seem to recall TBS missing an early game one year so not her. I'm guessing someone on ND has 23 but def not 24.

Yes - all alone. I suspect Stewart is the only player to start 23 NCAA tournament games but have not checked. Hadn't thought about ND but yes, I think they did make the final three out of four seasons.

San Antonio Stars have the 2nd pick in Thursday's 2016 WNBA player draft.

The following was taken from the WNBA's official website:

"I don’t think there’s any chance that Moriah doesn’t go 2. If she wasn’t on San Antonio’s roster, it would be because somehow they traded that No. 2 pick. But I think without question Moriah Jefferson is getting drafted 2." said Rebecca Lobo recently.

“[Stars head coach] Dan Hughes made it clear: For him to trade that pick, somebody would have to overpay for that pick, and I think especially now that Danielle Robinson is out with her Achilles this year, it’s even more of a certainty than before. She’s a completely different player now than she was her freshman year. There were times even her sophomore season where she was hesitant to shoot the three-point shot. People would completely play off of her and allow her to take that, and now she’s a huge threat from the three-point line. She’s become a much more confident player out on the court. Even as slight as her frame is, she’s become a stronger player. Coaches in this draft are really, really high on her, especially this year. It’s hard to find true point guards and she’s one of those, and she can affect the game on both ends of the floor.

I hadn't seen about the Robinson injury - very tough on her and ends her longshot attempt to make the Olympic team. Yeah - this now makes Moriah an absolute no-brainer for them. I thought before the injury, they might really be tempted to fill one of the other wholes in their roster - a wing/forward. I would suspect Morgan is still a tempting choice as well as some of the high output others.

So ... Morgan to the Sun. Who is their second pick?

Moriah Jefferson was probably the greatest, fastest, most confident point guard to ever wear a Uconn Uniform-and a thrill to watch-she presented a smile a minute-----BUT

Crystal Dangerfield is said to
:Have Speed and quickness are two assets for any point guard. At 5-6, Dangerfield has figured out how to use both on the court. While Dangerfield is certainly a very good athlete, she uses more than just her athleticism on the court. Dangerfield is a young point guard who really thinks through the game, and her ability to play with poise and tempo at her age is as special as her athletic ability. It's always fun to see the new class entering high school and the vibrance that it brings to the prep basketball ranks, .
Then too it is reported : her shot is more accurate than Moriah.
My 2016/17 year's SKY may be dented but it isn't falling. The reports on Erwin and Bent (while not in the top 100) are refreshing and encouraging. Erwin scores with either hand, pounds with the best under the hoop.
Bent is a good guard who is intelligent in how she plays the game.

Moriah was a great scorer in HS, but lost some confidence as a freshman at Uconn. The one area where Dangerfield may be better prepared is that I think she has spent more of her HS career on better teams against better competition than Moriah did. That said - still a huge adjustment, and lets let her grow into the position before starting the Moriah comparisons.

I've rewatched a lot of Mo's Frosh games and I don't think it was Mo who lost confidence but Geno--in the ND game he reluctantly put Mo in against Diggins and Diggy tapped and stole the ball from her--he immediately pulled her--put in Doty who didn't do better had he stayed with Moriah she would have not made the same mistake twice and it may have ended with a win for Uconn. Doty, slowed, was not an asset in the ND games.
Geno was a bit reluctant to play a freshman--at the end of her fresh man year the group of guards went to Geno and told him to "TRUST Moriah" she's a good point guard. He played her in the NCAA's ---I don't
think Moriah lost confidence--she didn't get Geno's confidence, as his other guard's realized even as a Frosh...
I didn't, alone, make the positive comparisons with Moriah--it was a couple of Recruit evaluating services I was paraphrasing/quoting. Dangerfield, is that good.

She lost confidence in her shot - not necessarily in her game. She spent the summer shooting hoops 6 hours a day in three separate sessions, specifically because she was having issue with her shot. And it took about two months of her sophomore season before she really started lighting it up as a college player. Considering she shot .424/.266 as a freshman, ending her career at .550/.420 is really astonishing. That she was a more accurate three point shooter than KML during KML's last two years is one of my favorite bits of trivia! :)

Since we have a WNBA squad in Dallas now, here's the deal...
Trade Skylar Diggins to San Antonio for the second overall pick so Moriah can play at home..
Win-Win for everybody....

Games won is an interesting stat. The class went 151-5, but Mo missed one game this year, and Stewie missed one this year and one as a frosh. That means that Moriah and Maya both played in 150 wins. How many of Kalana's games were wins? I'd guess about 149.

Maya definitely played 154 and won 150, Mo played in 155 and won 150, Stewart actually missed 3 games in her freshman year and one this year so she played in 152 games and won 147.

Mo and Maya with a shared record of 150!

Maya was durability personified.

Thanks for the cool research!

Don't think they publish stats like that, or the most missed free throws, or the worst shooting percentage (minimum 2 shots per game played) or the worst three percentage, or the most fouls, or of course the most minutes in Geno's dog house!:rolleyes::)

The turnovers is pretty easy just going to the player history in the record book - you have me intrigued with the question so I will probably succumb.

I'm NOT saying that's a bad trade, I'm just polling everyone that reads this post if they would make that trade? I think I would. Are we sure that Dallas is coveting Mo? Diggins is a seasoned player, and she would be an asset to the Stars. In addition, she would be reunited with her Notre Dame teammate Kayla McBride, who would love to have her as a teammate again. The stars need help at every position this year.

I am not at all sure about this, but my best guess is that the most turnovers in UConn history "award" would go to Svetlana Abrosimova, with 428. I can't think of anyone who would top that, unless it was during the very early years, or the years before Geno became coach.

seems that it would be a guard/forward who handled the ball a lot (Jefferson, Bird, DT3, Renee etc.) Svet fall into this group as well

I don't know if Dallas is interested in Mo but the same thing Skylar is doing Odyssey Sims can do. Why not have the hometown favorite and 4 time National Champ on the roster. Funny thing is that ever since the announcement of the Tulsa Shock coming here....there has been absolutely no promotion of this team. NONE. There may have been one and I mean "one" commercial or television ad but that is it. So, if that is the way they plan on doing things with the Dallas team, Moriah will sell more tickets than Diggins in DFW. Throw in the games will be in Arlington(UT-Arlington Campus) which is closer to Fort Worth than Dallas. IMO they just don't really care about this franchise success.

Looking at the Media Guide, it looks like Abrosimova, with Rizzotti not too far behind. Most of all the best players, players who handled the ball a lot, are up there in TO numbers.

If Dallas really covets Mo, and offers Diggins to San Antonio for their #2 pick, that would give Dallas the #2 and the #5 pick in the first round. There will still be blue chip players after the 4th pick that can come in and help a team right away. Whatever holes you need to fill (posts, wings or guards), can be filled by picking 2nd and 5th.

The question is, does San Antonio make that trade? It also sounds to me (based on your representation) that the Dallas Wings need to fire their present (if they have one) marketing staff, then recruit and hire a new young and eager marketing staff, that will come in with some fresh marketing and promotional ideas, which means pulling out all of the stops, and thinking outside the box.

2016 WNBA DRAFT ORDER OF SELECTION

First Round
1) Seattle (10-24)
2) San Antonio (8-26)
3) Connecticut (15-9)
4) Connecticut from Atlanta (15-19)
5) Dallas (18-16)
6) Los Angeles (14-20)
7) Washington (18-16)
8) Phoenix (20-14)
9) Indiana (20-14)
10) Chicago (21-13)
11) Atlanta from Minnesota (22-12)
12) New York (23-11)

Digging coming off injury is perhaps less of a blue chipper than she would otherwise be. Same goes with Sims.
