Ok, I have been out of town for a week or so and have seen car wash updates. I did run into my RR WF guy before I left and here's what he said. He said, his donor contact mentioned something big coming within that would accelerate another conferences decision process. I can only assume that to mean the recent ACC Network announcement, which could or may f0rce the Big12 or Big 10 to move, there's continue chatter within the realignment world his source said even though it's been quiet. He did mention that his donor friend said UCONN's name remains out there and is at the top of most discussions. Hang tight, some more noise will be coming, what ever that means. Take this again for what it's worth, I remain optimistic and confident UCONN will be a power player soon enough. Let's hope FB continues the upward trend, that's all we can control at the moment. GO HUSKIES!

I would love to know his take on what the acc terms will be after they are already reported.

A couple of FSU insiders with the Seminole Boosters who had telegraphed the ACC Net announcement for a month on premium Warchant have also stated that there will be more shoes to drop...and that it will be good news.

....an addition to the conference is in the works for the future
....there will be a division realignment (they say the term "division" is tricky. And there is current difficulty with scheduling.

My guess, and mine only, is that they are talking about Notre Dame's walk through the conference and how that would work with scheduling...and how do you play unequal divisions of 7 vs 8 teams.

I have a solution. Three five-team divisions with an independent floating ND. Of course, that means adding one. And I know the PERFECT candidate.

Unfortunately that's against the NCAA bylaws on conference divisions. The deregulation this past spring which granted the Big 12 a champ game with only 10 teams (with or without divisions) didn't go far enough to allow more than 2 divisions.

Of course that is what the ACC asked for and was turned down by the vote....led by the Big Ten's Delaney who said he didn't like voting for something when he did not know where it would lead...

My thought? He knew where it would lead.

Once Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany started analyzing what complete conference championship game deregulation would mean, he put up a roadblock and the Big Ten offered up an amendment. Conferences would be able to hold a championship game in one of two ways: between division winners after round-robin competition in each division, or between the top two teams in the conference standings after a full round-robin, regular-season schedule."

My guess is that the only way ND joins all-in on football, (yes TerryD your standing objection is noted), would be to craft a division that it would accept for round-robin, traditional rivals be damned. So if ND wants a division with UVA, Pitt, BC, UNC, GT, FSU and Clemson, that's the way it would fall.

Long shot but in the quote "between division winners after round-robin competition in each division" it doesn't say there has to be 2 divisions. What if there are three divisions and the championship game is between the two top division winners according to the playoff rankings?

North - UConn, Pitt, Cuse, BC and Virginia
Middle - VT, UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake
South - GT, Clemson, FSU, Miami, UL

I was a poli sci major so i have hobnobbed with enough lawyers to think that this is sufficient enough wiggle room to allow for three division and a championship game between the two best division winners.

You guys are grasping at straws that aren’t even there (wish they were though):
(from College football: FBS conferences with fewer than 12 members now able to hold championship game)

Under current rules, FBS conferences must have at least 12 members, and championship games must be between the winners of two divisions within the conference. Each division must play a round-robin schedule during the regular season in order to hold a championship game.

Council members adopted a proposal that originated with the Division I Football Oversight Committee but also approved an amendment from the Big Ten Conference. The amendment, offered by the Big Ten late last week, allows conferences with fewer than 12 members to hold championship games in football, as long as they meet one of two additional conditions: Conferences that want to play championship games must either play their championship game between division winners after round-robin competition in each division or between the top two teams in the conference standings following full round-robin, regular-season competition between all members of the conference.

Good news for some eastern team if the ACC expands.....I don't think there is interest in going west of the Mississippi.

Duke and UNC have been in UConn's corner....As football strengthens in the ACC (Miami, FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and UNC look to be pretty good this year), there is less pressure to strengthen that side of the conference.

With a streaming ACCN and a conventional channel, there is more need to have off football season sports to be watched. Basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, women's basketball, etc.

And there are few, if any, teams that bring that more than UConn.

FSU and Miami, from what I hear from fans, are luke warm about boosting USF or UCF as in state competitors...they are probably out of consideration.

Who is left in the east? UC and UConn.

Have to give Wake a bye for being an original member of 50+ years.

They really have a tough time competing as the second smallest student body in FBS.

I'm thinking the RR guy new about the ACCN and that it would force the Big 12 to expand for a network and then take us.

Yeah, yeah, that's it.

Liking your reply gave me an outlet for my frustration with the original post. I am very glad I did not have to type something that I would have regretted.

Devil's advocate.
"championship games must be between the winners of two divisions within the conference."

So is there anything stating that there cannot be three divisions with three winners, and two of those three division winners (based on playoff ranking) playing for the championship? Of course the math with 15 teams does not work unless you somehow wrap ND in, but IIRC one team ends up playing one less conference game than everyone else.

TBH, the WF RR update didn't help me feel any more optimistic this morning. But as the B12 news conference took place... There's a little more hope.

Since I'm an old man and love to tell stories I have a Wake Forest Story I love to tell
I've been a college football fan for as long as I could remember.
Any knowledgable football historian can tell you During Workd War II Army had one of the greatest three year runs in college football history
They were lead by the touchdown twins
Mr Inside Doc Blanchard
Mr Outside Glenn Davis
Both won Heismans
The team was so legendary they made a big production Hollywood movie about those years , Althought released in 1947 It was probably 1948 before I saw the movie.with my older brother and Dad .What does this have to do with Wake Forrest ,I'm getting to that
Army never went to bowl games ,like some Ivy teams they considered them crass commercialism. Which of course they were and still are.
But in the movie a representative from a major bowl is talking to Army about a bowl invitation . The Army coach ends up showing game films to the rep .This is before TV and although Army finished at the top of the polls not many people actually saw other teams play.
In those days Army opened with Wake Forest as cream puff game
When they ran the films of the rout ,the bowl rep make the comment that has stuck with me ever since " No wonder they call this team Wake!!!! Forest, they look like they got their players at a mortuary "
I'm not even sure mortuary was in my vocabulary but they quote has stayed with me
ever since.
