The aftermath of nausea post Thursday has barely dissipated, but the apathy for watching any football lingers. I just couldn't concentrate on any telecasts on Saturday, flipping from one channel to another. I finally gave up, gave the clicker to the wife & settled for an on demand presentation that we missed while on vacation. I've come to terms with the bleakness of UConn's reality, but it's ruined my passion for the sport in general.

This happened to me last year. I've just dramatically lowered my expectations and come to the conclusion that we will be 0-3 to start the season.... Anything better than that will be a pleasant surprise...... The whole conference issue is enough to turn me off from many other games I would have otherwise watched, or at least recorded to watch after the kids went to bed. These are tough times for sure.

I couldn't bring myself to watch a single snap on saturday. Luckily for me Destination America was running a BBQ Pitmasters marathon. I don't know if it's good or bad that we have next weekend off. I think I'm going to go into the Maryland game pretending it's opening day.

yep... same thing here for the most part. Just saw a graphic on ESPN this morning about all the FCS glory this weekend. At least misery has some company...

pretty sure I'll get pumped up for the MD game. My mind will somehow convince me that Towson was much better than expected, and Uconn just played a really bad game Thursday. With 2 weeks to work things out, they'll be ready for this game and get a much needed win.

Of course, regardless of the outcome, the same thing will happen for Michigan and everyone else down the line.

It's the very definition of ignorance (doing the same thing, expecting a different outcome). But I'm a fan so who cares.

At some point, in the next week or so, I will be writing a letter addressed to at least four the principal decision makers at the old alma mater. I haven't quite decided how to go about doing it, but I'm going to mobilize some effort somehow, someway to find out exactly what kind of commitment and goals we have for our university in the future. Because the track record to date over the past several years, is not showing me that we have the aspirations for our football program that the rest of the athletic department has for their programs, and the reality of the intercollegiate world, is that without a football program that is accepted into the highest level of competition, we lose the opportunities to be considered among the elites, in many, many ways. This was known, back in the late 1980s by UCONN leadership, was acted upon effectively through the 1990s, albeit with great difficulty, but was successful growing and moving by the 2000, and then was completely fumbled by UCONN leadership through the 2000s. WHile the success on the fields and courts was phenomenal, the management failed entirely to do what was required to sustain the growth that had occurred.

The failures we are at right now, are bigger than a loss to 1-AA Towson. It's the breaking point - somethign must be done.

I'm am still so frosted from Thursday night that I have not be able to get into any football on tv because of the bad memories from last week. I tried to blot it out of my mind to the point where I just walked thru my garage and realized I still have to clean my Coleman grill. Again the flashbacks start pregame then to a total deflation of any semblance of a decent season. Down the drain, to bad we can't hit the replay button on the DVR and get back to 7:30 8/29/2013 Thursday and get a do over. Maybe like my football group we can drop our lowest weekly score and erase it from the season long contest. Time for the AD to pony up and clean up Hathaway's debacle.

We're going back to our roots I remember from my days there: Sit in a half-empty stadium, watching a nationally meaningless game, than go back to my room and watch real college football on TV. I think UConn was televised once in my days there (regional game vs BU).

Let's face it Connecticut isn't really a football state. I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania in the 60's and early 70's. My family would go to a local game almost every weekend. We would go see Lehigh, Muhlenberg, Kutztown State, Lafayette, East Stroudsburg... who ever was home. There were a ton of other people doing the same thing. You just don't see that in Connecticut. I moved to Connecticut to take a job at UConn assisting with some research and was amazed at how little people here knew about their local college teams. It seems like for some unknown reason people in this area are enamored with baseball.

Well baseball is a pretty good game, but sports in general have less importance in Connecticut than most other parts of the country.

Other than a handful of schools high school football games in this state are played in front of friends and family.

In the past when UConn sucked, I at least enjoyed watching and rooting for conference mates who are playing out of conference. Now...not so much.

Rutgers game? Went to bed. UL game? Got depressed realizing how much better they are from a team, coaching and conference perspective...so I changed the channel. I tried to muster up interest in SMU/Texas Tech game but to no avail. I couldn't watch the Cincy game without having coach envy and realizing the next conference spot to open will probably be in the Big 12 and Cincy will likely get that spot.

I am depressing myself writing this...sigh.

Coachcap, your post encapsulates my sentiments exactly, however tomorrow is Tuesday, a full give days since the debacle. Sad that after one game Against an fcs opponent, I've had to readjust expectations but whatever.

From here on out this team is going to pleasantly surprise us, or we are getting a new coach. We can't lose. That's my outlook going forward.

This Towson loss has to be sticking in the players' craw, so I would expect them to show some pride and at least give a much better effort vs MD. If they lay another egg and get hammered......ouch.

I love watching Uconn, but I love watching college football just as much. Would never stop watching other games just because Uconn is having a terrible season.

I certainly understand though the point of view from those who are too depressed about our situation to tune in to other games.

My only saving grace this weekend - I remember the last time i was this down...

...driving back from Ann Arbor after thinking "maybe we might break through" for months. Then, Denard Robinson happened, and I was downright angry. Had similar hopeless thoughts (we can't beat a fast QB, our WR's suck, etc).

Think to how you thought back then, and how much has happened since.
