Can't figure out why Reed can't be Sanogo lite
I know Kalkbrenner has a few inches on Reed, but I'd like for Dan Hurley & staff to make Reed sit and watch tape of him. Kalkbrenner often knows where the next pass is going before the ball even hits his hands. I'm not calling Reed stupid. Unfortunately for him, UConn has has 2 centers in a row with well above average basketball IQs. Sanogo's footwork is among the very best and he started to learn how to pass out of the double team. Clingan used his height and brains to direct traffic when he wasn't setting screens or posting up. Reed plays bully-ball and that's okay. But when faces a guy with size and the ability to play solid defense, he's not ready for it. I don't think all the fouls are helping him, but he and SJ need to clean up the silly & stupid fouls, especially those that occur over 20 ft from the hoop, or that are a result of the guy doing the work before them and getting into great position. DC and Adama were big wide guys who ate up space, but they also outworked their opponents. I remember during one tournament game and the broadcaster talking about how hard the Huskies' opposing coach's work his bigs and they basically quit saying no one works that hard. Then he took them back to the locker room and showed a video of Sanogo and pointed to it and firmly said 'That man does. And he does it every day.' He went on to say you will not outwork him, but if you don't match him the team basically had no shot. Also curious if anyone remembers what game that was. I thought it was one of the Nike tournament games.
