Natalie Achonwa has been named to the roster as have Courtney Pilypatis (a Vermont alum that put up 20 points vs UConn in 2009) and Michelle Plouffe, whose twin sister Katherine plays for Marquette.

I was at that UConn-Vermont game. Courtney got into foul trouble too. Vermont obviously had no chance in hell, but she was a competitor.

Kim Smith & Shona Thorburn were at U of Utah a few years back where they may have done some damage in the NCAA tournament. I think they both got drafted or had training camp contracts but didn't stick in the WNBA.

Courtney kept Vermont in that game, no doubt.

Good for Courtney, Natalie, et al.

Did the other member of the Greek-Canadian-Vermont connection try out? Was her name Kotsopolous?

Congrats to Natalie, and the rest of the kids on the Canadian National team.... it will be a great experience for her and i'm betting help her and ND a lot this upcoming year. Some UCONN fans were "pooh-pooing" what Achonwa would be able to contribute as the starting center for ND this year, but i think those people will be unpleasantly surprised...

Shona Thorburn still retains a place in WNBA history, as one of the parts in the most one-sided trade in league annals: Bill Lambier's Detroit Shock sending Chandi Jones and the draft pick that became Thorburn to Minnesota for Katie Smith.

While we're on the topic of Canada here, I'm up in Ottawa where the next best thing to Uconn women's bball is Carleton University men's bball - you guys would love their style of play. Every year they have the Capital city hoops classic which is Ottawa U vs Carleton U and played at Scotiabank Place the home of the Ottawa Senators NHL team. In warms-ups down one end you have the Ottawa GeeGee's practicing athletic alley-oop dunks. Down the other end you have Carleton U executing a scripted, well-rehearsed, timed-to-the-second, range of warm-up activities. Carleton's best player is Tyson Hinz who reminds me a bit of Tina Charles: very strong, average height for their position, great footwork, and a fantastic range of moves.
