The kid is here. Fate accompli. He wants to perform well and will try hard to do that.
None of these guys wants a bad outcome so let’s give this team a chance to improve and come back from this. Yeah it feels lousy today.
The hell with the polls and “how freaking far we drop”. Just ignore it and let’s try to stop the negativity because it gets us nothing. There is still plenty of hope, we do have talent so don’t get caught up in the basketball geniuses and the negative hype train.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Shot in the dark here but he’s from Cali, went to hs and then college in Cali…is it taking a bit longer to get adjusted to life on the east coast? I have a hard time believing that Danny and all the assistants completely whiffed on their assessment of AM.

He has barely played the past two games so clearly our problems are far bigger than Mahaney. I’d like to see him compete with Solo for the starting 2G spot and let him focus on being a bucket getter with Nowell at the point. Clearly his confidence is shot right now and letting him go back to the position he’s more comfortable in might set him up better for success. We have to try something different because the current lineup looks NIT bound.

Despite the spelling, I agree. I try not to bash players. Some of them only got their driver licenses a few years ago after all.

They are all younger than my kids, including my son who played D1 baseball. Gives one a different perspective

With NIL, my opinion on this has changed. I would never bash a player as a person, unless there is a behavioral issue, but quality of play and discussing his capabilities is well within bounds.

I agree. His defense has been bad, but so has Solo's. Let them fight it out for minutes at the 2 and spell Diarra with Nowell.

I expect Hurley will figure this defense out. I don't know that we'll be a great defensive team, but the basics of staying on front of your man and learning to close out hard aren't happening right now. That stuff is easy to fix.

The problems are far beyond Mahaney at this time. Alot of players can be singled out. It does not look like UConn basketball. But, I still have faith as the talent is there and it's not even Decembwr. But, they better change things up as we are about to play more difficult teams quickly.

I have to agree. Mahaney‘w play will be critical to our chances in March.

This reminds me a bit like of all the posts about Joey C. Nov/Dec- yup some people posting how he couldn’t play in the Big East - wasn’t of the caliber we needed.

Proved naysayers dead wrong, and silenced them. He was key player in March.

Also lest us not forget many other players are playing sub par. Coaching has been sub standard the last couple of games.

This is a team issue v one individual player.

Unfortunately, we've discovered we don't have a quality starting PG and have been MASSIVELY spoiled with T-New for the past couple of years. This will be a long, painful, transitionary season until Nowell gets a year underneath his belt and we bring in DAdams and perhaps another veteran presence next season. Let's enjoy Karaban's last season with the team and hopefully, he'll land some national accolades.

The sooner the staff transitions Mahaney to the Joey Cali role, the better off we'll be.

Another spot where we wereridiculously spoiled the past two seasons is the five spot. Two years ago, with very few exceptions we had a force at center (Sanogo) who our opponent couldn't match. A double double machine and when he came out for a break, something that normally should benefit the opposition, in came Clingan, who often was a worse matchup nightmare.

Last year (save the stretch where DC was hurt), our starting center was an impossible matchup and when he was out, his relief was an entirely different body type and athletic profile, so even if the opponent could close the gap some when DC was resting, it was unlikely they could do enough.

We now are facing something we haven't seen in a few years, the possibility of being at a disadvantage at the center position in a number of games.

Yeah, but be honest. Collectively, we didn't appreciate T-Newt until 85% of the way through his Husky career. We were all over that dude for a year and a half

Won't bash him. Nowell should be starting.

I’m not ready to put Mahaney in the Joey C role. I think he can potentially be a more effective 2G than Solo. At least let them compete for the starting 2G spot. Just because Mahaney didn’t work at PG in the first 7 games there’s no reason he can’t be effective in the role he played the past two years.

It’s corrected I blame spell check, but we got just a touch spoiled with Sanogo and Clingan and then Clingan again. Sanogo was just a beast with amazing footwork. Newton I knew he wasn’t being replaced and he had vast experience and coolness. And then Castle was a 6’6” piece of steel.
I trust in Hurley to figure it out.

Today I will give thanks for your recent posts. They are very even handed. I also selfishly agree with 100% of what you've been saying.

Ire should be aimed at the guy who brought him in, if anything.
NIL makes them pro athletes, so criticism is fair. Plenty of 18 year old pros in other sports

It’s not Mahaney’s fault that he’s playing out of position. It’s Hurley’s for not getting a point guard.

You have to give Mahaney credit for challenging himself and jumping into the fire...but not all decisions have a storybook ending (Cam). Hope he finds a path to be productive.
