I know right now things don't look so good, but in the darkest hours of this program, let's hope this history follows us into 2017-18.
From the 1st time Jim Calhoun got into the NCAA Tournament, he followed an NCAA Tournament miss with this the following year:
15-13 29-5 Elite 8
18-15 32-5 Elite 8
20-12 27-7 Elite 8
17-14 24-9 1st round
18-16 32-9 NCAA Champions
Right now, this kind of followup appears to be a pipe dream, so how can it happen?
Jalen Adams:
becomes the elite guard as we have seen in UCONN history, his shooting becomes deadly, and his ability to get to the rim, undeniable, leadership skills puts Huskies on his back.
Christian Vitale:
After a better than expected freshman year, Vitale's game takes a huge leap, as his shooting, mental toughness, and defense inspires the Huskies. Coming off the bench ala Tony Gwynn, Phil Gamble, and Rashad Anderson, Vitale was electric.
Alterique Gilbert:
While he showed flashes of brilliance before his injury early last season, Gilbert quickly became a huge contributor in all facets of the game. he has given the Huskies a trio of guards that are a defensive nightmare for opponents.
Terry Larrier:
Considered by NBA scouts to be a potential 1st rounder, Larrier despite limited court time the last 2 years, became a match up nightmare. Larrier proved to a huge challenge, able to knock down 3's, post up a smaller defenders, and take it to the rack.
Surprise late recruit rim defender:
The Huskies landed a huge missing piece of the puzzle, with an AAC freshman of the year, that gave them the lacking presence, and rim defender inside, that was also a scoring option in the paint., lacking for the last several years.
This isn't impossible, but a lot has to happen to get there, let's hope it does!
