Last weekend I heard two Calhoun stories.
The first involved Jim and Pat quietly donating a significant amount of money to charity (not one of his own) without fanfare or any kind of expectation - and the summation was what a good decent man.
The second story - is the one I really enjoyed - since the first one was no surprise to me. One year when Calhoun was doing his turkey give away in Hartford someone on the school's staff asked Calhoun to sign something to take home to an elderly relative. He looked down and said NO in what she perceived to be in intimidating manner - she used the words arrogant and cold. I asked if he eventually signed it? She said yes right away. I of course told her that's his sense of humor - the Irish desire to get a reaction - but it made no difference to her and she said the elderly relative did not care for his autograph anyways.
I told her she should mail it back to him and tell him what she told me - LOL. I would love to see that reaction.
