According to sources in the Big East, Arseco and company are planning on exploring the following moves.
1. Sell the name “”Big East”" to the basketball schools after getting some assurances from the NCAA that the cost of losing the Big East name will not cost them too much in the lucrative NCAA basketball tournament. If the name is sold to the new Big East, the old Big East will petition the NCAA to get a 32nd guaranteed spot for its champion.

If they sell, the assurances for the 32nd spot would have to come first and not after. Source must have it backwards I hope.

I think because you can't petition until after it indeed does happen, then I think the assurances part he referenced is what they would need to pull the trigger on this.

Anyway the FB schools need a new clean identity and the C7 honestly deserve the name, so this works out well.

Does anyone really think that the champion of a league with Cincinnati, Memphis, Temple and UConn wouldn't get a bid? The only thing this helps is the unlikely event someone like SMU or USF makes a run in the tournament. The bigger thing would be to ensure that the Big East tournament credits remain with the football schools.

You started it. And yes we have sucked for the better part of the last 10+ years with even only a modicum of success in the BE before that.

We need a fresh start and we are apparently getting one. Also getting a fresh new practice facility for men's hoops, just like you guys.

yea we chose the almighty football dollar and in the mean time won 2 more national championships doing so. It's funny that these catholic school alter boys blame uconn for the destruction of the big east because we added football, yet it never affected out basketball prowess while other schools continued to do nothnig both basketball wise and football wise. By the way were the ones still in the conference. Not SU/Pitt/UM/VPI/BC/WVU... Oh and now all the Catholics.

Somewhat seriously, a fair way to distribute the credits would be to split them into three groups:

1. Those C7 earned
2. Those UConn/Cincy/USF earned
3. Those the other defectors have earned

Give #1 to the C7, give #2 to the UConn/Cincy/USF. Divide #3 by 2 with half going to the C7 and half to UConn/Cincy/USF. That seems the only truly fair way to me.

Exit fees, split what's owed in half give half to each new conference.

For the BE name, sell it to the C7. They have a few of the founding BE members and that's fine, but it's not coming cheap. $70 million should work, $10 million per school (hey that's the same as the exit fees).

I wouldn't give up the MSG contract though.

Lastly, everyone must vote to include UConn in this years BET.

i think providence fans are on a bit of edge becuase a little school down the street called bryant some how figured out how to play d1 football in rhode island yet prov can't even keep a baseball team around for starters. is bryant ever going to be good or play above a fcs level? prob not but who cares, they are going to party hard on fall weekends and enjoy the sport and fill the seats with locals and alums. prov can watch and learn. funny.
