The 3rd biweekly edition of the 2020-21 Boneyard Top 25 poll is approaching.

Ballots are due to me, via private message, by 11:00 a.m. ET on Monday, Dec. 21. (If you don't know how to send a PM, let me know in this thread and I will PM you first.) Ballots should reflect all games played through Sunday, Dec. 20.

2020HOWTOVOTE_080520_V01_BV_1596666870539_hpMain_16x9_1600.jpg

Two important notes, in view of issues we experienced in the last poll:
  • A note about early ballots. Several ballots were submitted early last week, but only one of them complied with the rule on addressing contingency scenarios. Early ballots (before all poll-relevant games have been decided on Sunday) are not acceptable unless accompanied by contingency scenarios in the event of any potentially ballot-impacting upsets.

All ballots need to reflect the same body of work, i.e., all games played through Sunday. If it's too early on Sunday to realistically address all the contingencies — or good lord, if it's not even Sunday yet — there's little point in submitting your ballot. Unlike in other kinds of elections, there is such a thing as voting too early in this poll. Last time I had to disqualify a ballot that had been submitted on Saturday because the voter never got back to me with an updated ballot.

  • A note about repeat votes. We also had multiple ballots in which the same team was listed twice. This is an error all too easy to make but none too easy to detect. And it creates a bit of chaos because I have to request a correction and hope the offending voter responds timely.

To help prevent this, here's a pro tip: When you think you have your final rankings, copy them into Word or Excel or a similar program, and then sort the team names alphabetically. This should make it readily apparent if any team is listed twice. (if you need assistance on how to copy and paste, or on how to alphabetize a list, let me know in a PM and I can help.)

A few more reminders:
  • Full ballots (of 25 teams) are strongly encouraged; short ballots (of at least 10 teams) are accepted.
  • No ties are allowed on a ballot. Each team on the ballot must have a unique ranking.
  • And it bears repeating: All voters are welcome regardless of fan base affiliation. The only requirement is to have a Boneyard account. Also, there is no requirement to have participated in previous polls.

Polls at this point don’t really reflect reality. Take No. 7 Arizona, a vastly overrated team. They escaped at Colorado with a 3 point victory in a game where they were outplayed for 95% of the game and had the lead for only three or four minutes, winning only because Colorado missed 11 free throws.

Arizona might be overrated, but they HAVE beaten everyone they’ve played, including UCLA (and Utah today). Who do you move ahead of them?

Baylor, Miss State, Maryland. Let’s see how they play against Oregon and Stanford. Young Colorado isn’t as bad as the record indicates and have two of PAC-12’s future best in frosh (Formann) and sophomore (Sherrod) but they aren’t there yet. UConn would have difficulty handling those two based on that Xavier girl but still would run away. Last year it took a miracle shot and a bonehead play to keep Colorado from sweeping Stanford. Arizona was simply out played, except for Macdonald. I would guess they will end up at the end around 15th.

I guess I'm going with, "You are what your record says you are." Also going with NOW, not "future best" or "Last year."

"except for Macdonald"
???? But they DID have McDonald. And they STILL have McDonald. Your eye test is totally biased. Just gimme the facts.

BTW on my ballot I do have AZ (#8) below Baylor (#7), Oregon (#6) and Stanford (#1). Don't agree on Miss. State. Haven't seen Maryland play.

Lots of folks have voted, but I'm still hoping to receive ballots from quite a few who voted in the first two polls. You can do it! I believe in you! :)

Oh man, I need to stop the balloting as I left Vandy off my ballot, who at 4-1 must be really good! :)

I guess this post also answers my question of "What will Marlene Stollings be doing while she's unemployed"...posting on the BY...is the answer...;)
