By joining Big Ten, Rutgers did better than any school in college realignment

That was the Headline in the Sports section of the Star Ledger on November 19th, 2012 ... as the Principals moved towards the podium.

"They don’t give out a trophy for this, but there will be a celebration in Piscataway on Tuesday that Rutgers fans will savor for a very long time. Because, at long last, the Scarlet Knights have won a title. They are the National Champions of Realignment. Think about it: Who out there did better?"

What did they know and when did they know it?

Mike Rice was front and center on their minds - both the AD Pernetti and the President. The suspension was December 13th, a mere few weeks later. Was this a calculated chronology? Of course it was ... they did what they did for the obvious reason. The suspension was light as to not grab attention for it at that time; I'm curious whether Murdock just could not find anyone to present his case. If he suddenly showed up that week in November ... all Hell would have broken loose.

Smarmy typical NJ crap. And for those who respond that UConn should have been this devious ... in life "what comes around, goes around". I believe you simply cannot tempt Karma.

A: This would not keep them out of the B!G. They were choking down a bitter pill as it was, Greg Schiano could have been ass-raping dogs on campus and it wouldn't make a difference;
B: I suspect the 3 game suspension was timed to be completed before the start of conference play, as if it mattered for those clowns.

I disagree.

Who is more attuned to the winds of Academia than the Presidents of the B1G with their high-minded high-faluting "prestige" pretension on the their research consortium (a sham). Any announcement about Rice 3 months before the podium would have paused the process. Trust me ... that is the case.

And, folks, the Schiano sales job ... beginning in 2000 ... was magnificent. Rutgers has a crap AD. They barely kept their program from mountains of RED ... and I don't mean Scarlet. With paper clips and rubber bands, they expanded the Stadium ... painted the porch and cleaned the lobby. The met B1G criteria on Cable. But, they aren't nearly the AD UConn has put together ... all down the line. So ... it is eyeballs that pushes us down the list; but, also it is just lack of years as a Bigtime Football program. Rutgers cobbled a perception together ... IMO.

People on this board mocked him for never winning anything, but if anyone deserves a statue its Greg Schiano.

Rutgers won. They lied and cheated and possibly even physically threatened Eric Murdock to keep this under wraps until they were in the Big 10. Now, whatever happens, happens. No one can hurt them.

3 million Jersey cable subscribers paying $10 more a year for the BTN. That $30 million is all that matters. Rice is a quiff in the wind.

This.

It isn't a Penn State situation. Jerk coach treated his players like crap. Don't read into this for something you hope is there, but isn't.

It's always the cover up that get's you. In the end though, RU will come out ahead, way ahead.

That headline was true on 11/19/12, and it is still true today. Rutgers was the family whose house was about to be reposessed by the bank until they won the $30 million + lottery. When are people going to wake up and realize that realignment has ZERO to do with ethics, morals, values, or academics at all.

Interesting line in the Chicago Tribune today
If Pernetti's blatant disregard for what's best for student-athletes eventually doesn't make him the next Rutgers employee dismissed, then the Big Ten needs to reconsider before 2014 whether the Eastern seaboard is worth adding an athletic department so adrift. A league spokesman said Commissioner Jim Delany was out of town this week and unavailable but, by the time Delany returns, the value of the Rutgers basketball brand will have begun to diminish.

I had to laugh at that last sentence. How can a value diminish if it never existed?

Absolutely true. If Rutgers doesn't have a few seasons of moderate success, and some fairly big TV numbers largely based on one season, they don't get a sniff of the B1G. No one, excepting the AAC because they had no other choices, was in a hurry to add Temple and they're in a huge market.
