ESPN Mike and Mike just reported it on air. Plus, there's this:

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20121207/SPT0101/312070045

Wonder how this will impact Cincinnati's program. They're 3 for 3 with their past coaching hires...are they due for a Kragthorpe or Pasqualoni??

That's an interesting point.....is that the same AD up there the whole time? 3 great hires in a row.

They are due to get "kragthorped".

They are trying to position themselves for greener pastures as we are. This time it will be intersting to see if the AD will try and lure (with money and promises) a bigger name that will have perceived relevance, rather than his normal (and so far successful )route of hiring the good up and comer.

Jones is a very good coach, but I think Tennessee is a tough job these days as the key to winning at Tenn is recruiting outside of Tennessee. Fan expectations are so high, but is it a better program in the SEC today than Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, LSU, and Texas A&M? Do they have more talent today than Vanderbilt and Mississippi St? Throw in Tennessee is on probation and is coming off some bad seasons and this is going to be a tough turn around.

Butch Jones is an odd fit here as they need a top notch recruiter, preferably with great connections in Florida and Georgia. That sounds more like Charlie Strong than Butch Jones.

Tenn is a tough place to coach, but he does more with less, he'll do just fine. Good hire for Tenn.

I think he'll do well too. Cincinnati finds and develops coaches for success at major programs. Butch Kelly is a good coach and will make Tennessee competitive again. I'm sure whoever Cincinnati will hire as Kelly's replacement will make all of us UConn fans cringe at the thought of another good coach taken off the board for our inevitable 2013-2014 coach search.

yeah watch him turn into a big time coach then he will leave in 2-3 years and then boom hire the next one its like a process at Cincy its almost like they are always prepared to lose their coach.

Anyone else think this is an extremely risky hire? His only two other head coaching jobs were riding the wake of success that Brian Kelly had created. There is no evidence he can rebuild, which is exactly what he has to do here. I think he did a good at job maintaining at both his previous jobs, but he never stayed at either job long enough to fully cycle out of Kelly's recruits. Should be interesting.

If you can't recruit at Tenn, then you shouldn't be a head coach. The SEC sells itself. I could be a recruiting coordinator at Tenn and do a half decent job.

There's a ton of tradition at Tenn and they have a big fan base with lots of support. Dooley wasn't the right guy, but Jones can and will do it.

This timing stinks for Cincy as most of the less expensive options have been taken. Kent St, NIU, La Tech, all those coaches already nabbed. So what's left for them? Recycled coaches like Skip Holtz or Crystobal? The timing just stinks for them since they missed out on some up and coming coaches, which seem to be the type they hire and have success with.

At least this puts them behind us in the realignment game, I hope....

Cincinnati has the benefit of being in an intense hotbed of football talent. Hell, the city houses one of the nation's best high school programs. Once Cincy ends up in a non-BE conference, I wouldn't be surprised to see it turned into a perennial ranked team in football. They have the location that we seriously lack.

Are they willing to pay what Diaco is asking? He is a very well paid DC.

I have no idea what Diaco is making or asking for. I don't think Cincy will be willing to go to $3 million per year. They don't have the dough that Ville has that allowed them to keep Strong.

Listening to Butch Jones press conference at Tennessee. Night and day versus PP - makes me want to root for UT.

He's killing it.

actually they have the biggest location issue of anyone right now. They are in OSU's backyard. That isn't going to gain them access to the Big10...

Why do you turn down a job offer from Colorado, get quoted in the press about staying at Cincy and showing commitment to the program and the kids, and then accept a job at Tennessee?
I was thinking he's different and feeling like the BE lost out big time if Strong and Jones were staying.
Not 24 hours later he's gone.
Why bother giving the press those quotes if you're actually leaving?

...cause it's your dream job?

LOL, I think it's more a case of dead end Colorado, so much work and no leash versus Tennessee with SEC money and easier recruiting.

Right now, UC would be the balancer to the ACC if Notre Dame ever decides to play football in the conference.
