Dislike all articles that hype Bouknight. I guess it was unrealistic to keep him a secret until at least February. I know the pro scouts will be hovering soon, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Anyway, its still early but all of our Championships had an AA. Who knows???

his in game coaching helped us win a national championship. There was no reason for Kentucky not to foul at the end.

The bigger mistake was not sticking with the zone when it was giving us tons of trouble. We got one pass over the top and he abandoned it. I don't think it was his decision to not foul after Boatright came away with the ball. His players just knew it was over.

It wouldn't have mattered anyway. We were crazy good from the foul line that year.

There was 10+pro scouts in Charleston I talked to a few of them. They know who he is.

I hope they understand they need to keep thier hands off him for a while. In due time we will let him go. As Corso says, "not so fast!"

That team shot 90% from the foul line as a *team* throughout the entire tournament. Florida did the same thing late - fouling anyone on the floor was an automatic two points for us.

Trading threes for 2s and stopping the clock still feels like a better strategy.

Math disagrees.

Say UK shoots 50% from 3, their expected value per possession is 1.5 points.
Say UConn shoots 90% from the line, their EV/possession is 1.8 points.

Even if UK shot 100% from 3, they'd need 5-6 possessions to make up the approximate deficit.

They're far more likely to make up the deficit by pressing the backcourt and trying to force a turnover or missed shot late in the shot clock.

that’s what Cal said after the game, something to the effect of “you can’t foul them, they don’t miss.”
Makes me so frustrated when we miss now. It can in fact win a championship!

Indeed!

vs St. Joes = 18-20 for 90%
vs Nova = 22-28 for 79%
vs Iowa St = 20-22 for 91% (Iowa St just 40%)
vs MSU = 21-22 for 96%
vs Florida = 10-13 for 77%
vs Kentucky = 10-10 for 100% (Yes, the squid was right, UConn did not miss that day!)
TOTAL = 101-115 for 88%.

14 misses from the line in 6 games, find me a team that wouldn't kill for that during any 6-game stretch!

-During those six games: Brimah missed 2 (0-2 game), Nolan missed 2 (one of his missed FTs was 1 of the only 2 misses vs St. Joes), Daniels missed 2 (including the only miss of the MSU game), Napier missed 2, Samuel missed 1, Tolksdorf missed 1, Boatright missed 4 (1 in the St. Joes game and the other 3 in the Nova game).

People say D wins championships. Sure. But in the case of 2014 UConn, free throws won the Huskies not only a number of those games but in the end, the title!

The 2011 team was no slouch either:
vs Bucknell 8-9 for 89%
vs Cincy 25-30 for 83% (25 points from the FT line out of 69 points)
vs San Diego St 12-16 for 75%
vs Zona 14-18 for 78%
vs Kentucky 9-11 for 82%
vs Butler 14-16 for 88%
TOTAL 82-100 for 82%

Am I the the only one who thinks that site is garbage?

The dude writes like a high-schooler.

I typed up a similar post but decided it was too mean. Dude almost definitely lurks here.

Needs more interesting prose, less boring recap facts, less couching of his opinions, less stating the obvious, and en editor.
