AD David Benedict spoke recently of the landscape changes and making a “Conference of Independents” that will share bowl ties.

That’s Dave’s vision for stabilizing UConn’s post season predicament.

With the landscape about to shift at the G5 level, it will conceivably open up said opportunities to align with like-minded schools.

Since some of you said that it wasn’t just losing you didn’t like, but it was the schools in the AAC that bothered you, I’m curious to know your ideal G5 home.

Here is a scenario that I think DB may pull the trigger on.

“Independent Conference”
UConn
UMass
Liberty
NMSU
ODU (CUSA implosion rumors/Other sports A10)
Marshall (CUSA implosion rumors/A10 combo)
Villanova (move up to FBS Indy)
Georgetown (move up to FBS Indy)
Butler (move up to FBS Indy)
Dayton (move up to FBS Indy/Join NBE as #12)

I think this is the best case scenario to build a G5 home for UConn that will hold UConn fan interest.

I always wondered about the term "sub-basement"....

I really do not see much to get excited about for Husky fans playing that schedule.

Did you notice tweeters talking of Kansas "UConning themselves"?...UConn now a verb? But not a bad one in connotation.

The above scenario will result in a new verb...Uconnasia.

If all these schools are Indy and they play each other anyways then why bother with a conference.

If we learned anything, getting entangled with other school’s choice is bad for business.
Good point. But if we have informal standings it would be cool.

Hard pass. I’d sign up for a football only league:
UConn
UMass
Army
Navy
Temple
Buffalo
ECU
USF

As unsatisfying as that would be, right now that is the best case alternative. And who knows if we will be able to compete at that level.

I have come to believe that below is the best football conference for UConn to compete in.

Villanova University
The College of William & Mary
James Madison University
University of Richmond
Elon University
University of Delaware
University of Maine
University of Rhode Island
Towson University
University at Albany
University of New Hampshire
Stony Brook University

I have to totally agree with you. But JMU has FBS aspirations. Who will replace JMU??

Nope.

If it's not on par with the Miami/BC/VT less Big East, I'm not interested in ever joining another conference. If the independent thing doesn't work out, fine. Joining a nobody conference isn't worth the hassle.

Looks good to me. There were two key points:
1. UCONN was extremely lucky to make the jump to 1-A and joining a BCS conference at the same time.
2. The massive kick to the crotch caused by realignment cannot be overstated.

The mess today does not surprise me. A manageable conference like this allows plenty of P4 opponents while keeping a regional competitive conference.

That can’t be a real conference but a scheduling agreement among Eastern Independents min 6- max 8 plus 4-6 out of agreement games of each schools choice would be first prize .
im not sure on Buffalo and ECU .
