UCONN needs to have a huge Video Billboard built off 84 at the exit that can be seen from both directions of traveling cars. We are the Basketball Capital of the World and everyone should be reminded to take pride in the University and its athletic teams. I always liked seeing the sign by the exit but the University and Athletic teams are missing a great opportunity to sell itself by not promoting itself properly.
The picture of Coach Hurley by the current sign is a little embarrassing. His team just won the National Championship and you know how proud he is of the 5th Championship. The size of the sign and how it looks is like someone built it in their garage.
I would estimate 175,000 cars drive by everyday. Think of being an alumnus and every time you drive by and see your school in lights. Think of every car from out of state, seeing how proud the state is of her flagship University. Every kid who is in that car and seeing this beautiful billboard and then asking their parents questions about the school. It could be used for selling all types of things that UCONN has to offer. Academic, Athletic, Social, etc. The possibilities are endless. Think of the recruit that is driving to UCONN and sees his name in lights welcoming him for his visit.

Already better than our peers

Now a days, how many drivers would not see the billboard because they were looking down at their phones texting?;)

I love seeing that sign when I drive up that way but I agree it’s kinda ‘meh’ at this point with the creativity that’s out there.

Unrelated, it still grinds my gears that I go on various websites and still can’t get certain products with UConn on it. I have been looking for an outdoor basketball pole pad with the name and logo on it and the sites I find have a list of teams but not UConn. It just amazes me that there is more of an appetite for a Tulane pole pad than a Husky one. Maybe that’ll change with #5 but some of the other teams that are readily available are just absurd. Tennessee Vols, Minnesota…Syracuse? Come on…. Rant over…

Now that the Electric Blue is shut down, the billboard they’ve had for years heading west on I84 is for rent. UConn should take it over!

You need four signs about a 1/4 of a mile apart as you approach the exit. In this suggested order.

One for Soccer,
One for Field Hockey.
One for Men's BB,
One for Women's BB,

I'd go full South of the Border: 1 sign for each championship, spread a mile apart. Start up around the Mass border.

And seriously, the sign is ridiculous. The championships get less highway visibility than a state sign telling you there is a dunkin donuts to the right of an exit ramp.

What did Electric Blue get shutdown for? I used my older brother's ID to get in there when I was 16 and 17 in the 1990s.

This is what I advocated for as well, but I would take it further and also put billboards/signs near the entrances, or as close as possible to the entrances, to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun and some within the casinos themselves. The automobile traffic and the foot traffic is so high in those places from people all over the world. I would do the same in NYC, too. As for costs associated with this, I will let the new GM of UConn figure this out ;).

Can’t believe you omitted the most important one of all.

Then set up a geofence and ping everyones phones who drives by the exit with a text that says “Home of the 23X NCAA Champion UConn Huskies”

EMS, funeral homes, auto body and tow companies would likely sponsor this.

The present sign doesn't work anymore. You need to be driving about 30 mph to have time to read all of the championships. That number is only growing.
Put up a couple of speed bumps right before the sign.

And a sign saying “you just passed the basketball capital of the world”
