Light years better than any QB we've had since Orlovsky. Tough SOB too. Kid takes so many hard hits during games and pops right back up. 2016 will be a promising season knowing he is our guy in spring ball and heading into summer camp.

Yeah, I am looking forward to 2016 also. Let's get all of this losing, mistakes, penalties, bad luck out of our system these first 2 years.

#UConn QB Bryant Shirreffs is first QB in school history to rush for 100 and throw over 300. His 465 total was more than #USF total (461)...

How this is possible while only having 1 turnover (usf had 2) and still lose blows my mind. You can't convince me this loss is on the players, regardless of several bad angles and penalties.

Like I said in the game thread, he is the first true playmaker we have had behind center. Did so much with his legs, and really, had to, considering his OL

Let Bryant audible, esp. on 3rd/4th down. He wouldn't do any worse than the coaches

Yep, he's better than our last few with CC the possible exception.

But the numbers lie. He had a terrible day yesterday. He constantly threw into coverage. Missed the hole on a crucial QB sneak. Didn't read the blitz. Took bad sacks. Missed wide open receivers. He was ineffective in the red zone. And his clock management skills are completely absent.

The loss was not his fault alone. But this was not a very good day.

Is still raw, yet a bad and we're lucky to have him.

I love that kid and trust him running the show.
I totally agree, really like BS at QB. Just makes me nervous when he takes off and instead of sliding he will take on a defender straight on. We need him in game. Also finally think our QB situation for future looks bright. BS 2 more years, Tyler Davis 4 years eligibility and J. Rose coming in.

Trying to get over yesterday's loss and look at bright side. Not sure why but feeling ( or at least hoping) we come up with a big effort vs Cinci.

I thought his success running made him very one dimensional.
This team has some playmakers. I think Shirreffs needs to get them the ball.

Once he started running, his decision making was eliminated. He looked to run before even checking his targets.

I don't know Marty. He was doing that earlier and I worried that he was getting happy feet because of our, to be charitable, porous line but he threw a couple on the run yesterday including the long play to Bloom. I still think he runs a little to much but I also saw him make a couple of really good decisions where usf delinemen dropped in coverage leaving huge holes. He took off and made very nice gains. He is a gamer. He's not Orlovsky but he's no Johnny Mac either.

I'm sorry -- are you being facetious? Seriously, I can't tell.

He did throw a couple of bad balls one of which was caught by Noel Thomas in spectacular fashion. The very next play was the tipped INT, but overall he had a really good day. Missed a few throws on 3rd down.

He threw the ball 41 times and ran the ball 19 times. Of course a football player making 60 plays is going to make some mistakes. But the starting point that a college QB should throw the ball 41 times and not make any bad throws or decisions is patently absurd.

Fans need to tape the game watch it again at home. too much that goes on during the game you can't see at the RENT. Shirreffs is the MVP of this team. If he goes down with an injury our season is over. Our offensive line and running backs are still struggling to pass block. I re-watched the game last night and counted at least 4 times where our center and two guards were pass blocking just one South Florida player. This left a huge hole for the South Florida to sent one of its stunting lineman or linebacker though the hole between the guard and our tackle. Its was painful to watch. Shirreffs is doing a great job running for is life and making plays for this team. He isn't the problem. We lost the game because of a very poor game from our defense and secondly our coaches decision not kick all those field goals that we had a chance to kick. Speaking of our defense, our opponents are exposing our lack of speed on the edge. I love Luke Carrezola but he seems to me struggling defending the wide plays. Of course we still put almost zero pressure on the other teams quarterback.

I agree, but we seemed so conservative yesterday, that the couple of throws he missed one to Mayala where he threw it too low when he was wide open, really stood out. I feel he is outstanding overall, especially given what we've had. I think we will see a totally different player a year from now, one the coaches fully entrust with the game.

BS's liabilities are on the decision making side. His physical contributions are probably more that the program deserves at this point. He was the best player on the field by a mile and still was a major reason we lost. Beginning with the 3rd down play missing an uncovered Thomas in the endzone on the opening drive that preceded the 4th down sneak fail. The low throws to open Newsome and Mayala would have resulted in first downs in the red zone that would have meant points and the last play of the half throwing to the flat.

The crime of the day was the decision to kick on 4th and an inch after going for it in more questionable circumstances. I think BD may have been influenced by the other plays. Another reason to play it straight early.

The coaching moment of the week should be to work on recognizing misdirection on defense. That was he big adjustment by USF on O. The D bit too hard on the fakes and left themselves open for big gains.

The burn the place down moment was the inexplicable performance of the replay booth. Able to spot the ball on consecutive plays to the inch through a literal ton of humanity, yet unable to see a runner step on the sideline three times within 10 yards. Why bother with it at all.

Note to all fans -- college QBs aren't supposed to make 60 staight good throws or 60 straight good decisions. This is not the NFL, and Orlovsky wouldn't meet those standards.

Btw. Fair to be critical of him. But he is a sophomore who is way better than the senior that left.

Agree - fair to be critical but it needs to be grounded in reality.
