Simple as this.

You have got to want it more.

You have got to want it enough to not let them shoot 50% from 3.

Lamb has been so disappointing this year. Yes he's put up nice numbers but he isn't a star. He never carries the team to a victory. He never stops a big run from the other team. Hell put up his 16 to 19 but he doesn't go off for 25 and put us over the hump like u need from your "best player". Hell keep us close but let's us blow it. What was he thinking on those two trees???

Lamb is supposed to be our stud.
Not so.
He's a sidekick, not a hero. He doesn't have the mental makeup to simple exert himself. It is completely inexcusable, from a basketball perspective, that he didn't take the ball to the rack more and challenge his defender inside the paint. Waaaaay too content to gun. Gotta commit early and often to making the defender make the play.

Very disappointing loss.

Lamb has torpedoed his draft stock. NBA scouts have to be seeing that he does not have the stones when it matters. Kemba came back for his Jr year and became a star. Lamb needs to do the same and might if not for our APR issues next year.

This team is not willing to work for 40 minutes. I've had it with this team. I know I'm going to hear from the, they won the championship last year group, but truthfully they did not play much better last year either. It took a miraculous run at the end to salvage a disappointing regular season.

It doesn't appear this program can handle a Big East regular season anymore. 3 absolutely dreadful conference seasons in a row. It has cost us 2 NCAA tournament berths. They clearly don't have the energy, attitude, or focus to get through the conference season. How else do you explain it?

And if our head coach is not physically able to make it through an entire season it is time to move forward because we cannot have the dope who gave away our season tonight coaching 5-6 games a year.

No one will say it but Calhoun is to blame for this year. Blaney is unfit to be coaching.

Been watching UConn basketball for over 40 years and think this was the worst loss I've ever seen. An utter and complete collapse.

Unfortuately started by an idiotic trigger 3 by Giffey who doesn't get back and cover his man who then drains a 3.

All downhill from there. That was pathetic...

Yeah I would never waste a draft pick on Lamb. He is just a wait and shoot jump shooter. He just is too lazy trying to get open it hurts. He should watch how Rip Halmilton got open using picks and screens. Only AD really should go. JL needs to stay at least one more year. I don't see why anyone would take a player this soft. He he like a less talented version of Rudy Gay. I mean we all knew Rudy Gay had a chance to be good when he was the man. JL could have been the man today and he just soft like Charmin tissue. Embarrassing. The worst one was when RB passed a lob and he just jogged for the ball when he knew he should be running full speed. Yikes and this is our best player. No wonder we are so bad this year.

In fairness to NG, JC would yank him for that kind of missed shot, so he's probably as comfortable as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs when he shoots that.

Really. Seriously. Thank God for Kemba and the NC last year. Without that, this 3 year stretch would have been just unpalatablely awful.

I brought this up a few weeks ago and was lit up. I think the discussion was about him being elite or not. He isn't. Truth hurts.

Correction - Kemba won a championship last year. The rest should give their rings back.

I agree with you. I never said he was elite but I thought he was better than a bum. The ball is on the ground with four seconds to go and our season in the balance and he lazily bends over to try to pick it up. Sums it up right there

And I'm not saying he isn't good. He is good but lazy. Not a bum, but not elite either. This discussion is going on in a few threads now.

Brutal season...2010 all over again, except this team had higher expectations to begin with...#4 in preseason and most of us thought they were BETTER than that.

they are lacking in many areas and just do not seem to be able to put it together when it counts

They can put it together, but it is only 30 minutes a game. The other ten is usually a -15 to 20 in the point column.

They're lacking, critically, in one area - commitment to playing 40 minute games at full intensity.

If they had that, the rest of the issues could be easily ignored, as we'd be a top 10 team right now.

I couldnt agree more man. Hes obviously a good player, but he looks so disinterested out there. His d has been fairly nonexistest all year. How many tip steals going the other way has he gotten the last 20 games? 2 mabe 3? He used to get that many every game at the end of last year. That final play was pathetic. He barely bent over to grab the ball. Our teams from the past would have dived all over the providence guy with the ball elbowing the crap out of him to try to rip it away. Lamb lazily bends over. Im not blaming our season on Lamb because he has been fairly consistent but hes not a star. He never takes games over or explodes to lead us to a win.

Not disapoointing but brutal loss especially since we needed this game and we were up by 14. Lamb hurt us again today with his awful perimter defense and only had 9 pts, 6 of them in a 1 minute sequence in the end. Boatright instead of driving to the hoop and taking the shot or giving an alley to Drummond he passes to Lamb who chucks him awful looking 3s. Those are inexcusable plays not to mention Blaney's stoic demeanor when he should be up in everyones faces starting with Lamb for playing like and losing the lead. Calhoun/UCONN administration I am willing to offer my unique skills and services to replace Blaney at a fraction of the cost.

P.S. we still have a chance if we beat Pitt and at least win our first game in the BET.

I think Jeremy though he'd already made the NBA and he played defensively. On offense.
He can still be a star, and an NBA players, but he has to commit to possibly being a 4-year college player. His confidence, and his body aren't ready.

question: is it just uconn who doesn't box out or is it everyone in college basketball?

Just UConn, all the others teams boxout perfectly. And on every play too. Also in practices. :)

As gratifying as last season was because our expectations to start the season were so low and the way they struggled in BE play, this season is the complete other side of the spectrum. As others have said, we lose Kemba, but bring in the #1 or 2 big man recruit, the #10, and a top 40 or so point guard, expectation were rightfully high this season. Granted winning another title was a long-shot, but to finish under .500 in the BE, and miss the NCAA tourney?? This team plays like they started over from scratch after last season.

The epitome of the season to me was tonight, seeing Lamb dogging it down the sideline after the long outlet pass instead of busting it and then looking disgusted at having the ball go off his finger tips out of bounds. To compound this lack of effort, we end up losing by a single possession. I've never gotten the impression that these players understand that every possession is critical and any mistake or lack of effort can be what ends up losing you a game.
