The 19U World Championships will be held from July 18-28 in
Lithuania. Unless I am 'misremembering' [a la Roger Clemens] our three frosh were
on the team that qualified for this tourney last summer....with the understanding that they would still be eligible age-wise for the tougher world championships in 2013.

Here's hoping that they all get invited and that their schedules permit them to go.
Bring back the gold!

I would guess the team will gather in Colorado Springs in late May/early June....and then reassemble in mid-July to prepare. The USABasketball site normally does a nice job with interviews/pictures/game stats.

I was wondering what basketball events await our players over the summer. Here's one answer.

I hope Stef's involves staying on campus and rehabilitating.

If they go, here's hoping they wear ankle wraps. I used to think summer bb on Uwhatever teams was the best thing to do for underclass players. After Bria Hartley's experience last summer, I'm not so sure.

Given the trials of this season injury-wise, one almost wonders if these off-season events are worth the risk. I know kids can be injured just working out or playing pick-up on their own but still....

Thanks for the info Blakeon.

I know they want to play for their country, and I want them to, but it just scares me to death someone will get injured. I also believe they need to get away from bball for a while.

I wonder if this is being too giddy about Seven One: I think USABasketball has its eye squarely on
Breanna as a realistic member for the Rio Games in 2016. She would have graduated from UConn that spring....and have had a ton of international experience.
Dee....Candace Parker...are two that come to mind who played in the Olympics the summer after their senior year.

I also think they would want Breanna on that team....even in a limited role....to prepare her for a bigger role [as in 'starter']
in 2020 when she will be around 26 and entering her prime years.

I vote for Seven One on our team in Rio with her family courtside....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Injuries are a concern....some time off for all of 'em is important. But even if they do not play for USABasketball they would be playing
pick-up games in Gampel...or maybe Breanna in Syracuse on visits home....injuries are just as likely there as in Lithuania.

Blake's recollection is correct, the three frosh played on the U18 team, and will be highly considered, but not automatic, for the U19 team

Here's the summary of the results, including the 2012 results. USA Basketball was kind enough to allow use of a photo of Morgan Tuck and Breanna Stewart

I would hope they stay on campus, take courses, and work on their games. Stewie and Mo need to get stronger, and all three could benefit from rest and just working on improving different aspects of their games.

For those wondering about upcoming USA events in general, check out the table in USA Basketball.

Looks like:
  • U16 Championship
  • U19 World Championship
  • World University Games
  • 3x3

I hope Stef rehabs. I'd be thrilled if any of the others were selected for any of the USA teams.

I can think of only one case to buttress your claim: Sveta and her ill-advised pickup game with Shea in Florida against some guys a dozen years ago. In other words, I'm calling you out on your blithe assertion, Blake.

I'd bet games at home are fewer and not as stressful, leading to less chance of injury.

Likewise. You don't get better if you don't play.

Try CD a few years ago, though that was also just results of a failed operation. And beyond Bria, not sure I remember another problem with USA basketball.
I wouldn't mind Mo getting sent off to PG camp if that is still being run, and I am really happy to have Uconn represented on USA teams.

I'm sure everyone who's eligible to play USA basketball wants to in the summer, but at this point injury-wise they should all take the summer off(especially Stef and Bria).
