It actually came from his coach. Which the media then pushed because that's what his coach pushed.
He was billed as an expected one and done by the media before he even started practicing. These guys are pre-selected by the media as ones to watch before the season even gets underway.

I'm sure. But the media was also listening to his coach saying the same thing all the way through summer practices and fall camp.

I'm sure I can find articles of Hurley almost guaranteeing he'd be a one and done before the season even started.

Which fueled the media and our fanbase to say the same.
 
He missed at least 3-4 where he was wide open, feet set, etc. And missed them all by a wide margin. And it’s 35 games into the season, let’s skip the “freshman, deer in the headlights” excuse.

His best game was probably his first…..AT Kansas
Came in highly hyped, and had a great debut, perhaps setting the bar a bit too high for himself.

I like to think there's still time to leap over that bar.
