-> Mullins was crowned Mr. Basketball on Sunday night during the Indiana High School Sports Awards show, presented by Indiana Pacers, at Butler's Clowes Hall. <-

-> “I wanted to do something that challenges myself and I felt like this was the best opportunity to do that,” Mullins said. “That’s why I picked UConn. I wanted that challenge, and I want to prove everybody wrong. I know it’s going to be tough. I’m going to be 13, 14 hours from home. But I knew that when I picked UConn. I’m excited for it now that it’s almost here. They are going to push me to be my best and I’m willing to work for that.”

Mullins, the first Mr. Basketball from Greenfield-Central, will play in the games during Indiana All-Stars week (the games vs. Kentucky are June 6 and 7) before leaving immediately to start his journey at UConn. <-

Didn’t need another thread:

12. SG Braylon Mullins – UConn signee

School: Greenfield-Central (Ind.)
Scouting Report: “Over the past year, Mullins has opened his game up to become much more than a spot shooter. He has become a more dynamic shooter, especially when it comes to establishing his footwork and getting his balance points together shooting off movement. With his development shooting off of movement, his release has become a little inconsistent as he can short-arm his shot at times, leaving some shots left and right. Mullins is a springy athlete, capable of straight-line driving a sloppy closeout and finishing above the rim. He has a high motor on the defensive and his twitchy athleticism and length allow him to be a pest when guarding off the ball. He moves well laterally, and when he locks in, he can be a disruptive defensive presence.” – Jamie Shaw, On3 National Recruiting Analyst

Good to hear about the defense.

He’s the first Indiana Mr. Basketball to commit to UConn. In fact, most who win the award end up at either Indiana or Purdue, or other Big Ten schools.
Have we even had any player from Indiana before? I can't recall any off hand.

This is nice, but it's hard to get too excited about a double digit recruit.............

On a more serious note, this recognition is beyond being named to the McD's team for an Indiana kid and Braylon (can't make myself type BM) will be a special player here.

Those of us who lived through the dark days of the early and mid-80's, hoping we could avoid the Wednesday night play-in game at the Big East Tournament, have probably enjoyed the special victories, that came after JC built the team, way more than most. And his work laid the foundation for UConn to be able to recruit players like Braylon.

The "Dream Season", became the "Dream Decades"........

Good to hear about the defense.

This is a weird scout... he shorts arms EVERY shot. That's just his form.

He also hasn't really showed a lick of defense because it has been AAU or public school basketball where they stick him at the front of a 1-2-2 zone. He has the athleticism and length to be disruptive on defense, but hasn't SHOWN anything.

Post HS season he went to Indiana Elite which is in the Adidas 3SSB so he definitely played against better opponents of late. He is very busy on the court, so I think his defense will be a nice complement in the 0.8 - 1.3 steals per game stat.
