Am not sure if this has been posted in the Evans thread that we had earlier, but i would like to see allen get a chance to prove he an be a good back up. i just think with the way Evans is playing, i doubt that allen could play much worse. i know he is a walk on, and me and alot of you do like Evans leadership, but he has played bad and this should be a good chance for allen to prove if he was worth the scholarship. Thoughts?

I'd like to see Allen too but it might be a little too late. If there was ever a good time for Allen to play, it would be in the Non-Conference where he could get a feel for the game against 'inferior' teams/talent. But now that we are in Conference play, wins are much more critical & Ollie prob have to stick with some1 that is battle tested (Evans) regardless of what we may think. I would like to see Brendan play though, hopefully he'll get some minutes over this 5 game stretch..

. . . . but i would like to see allen get a chance to prove he an be a good back up . . .
Point 1 - this comes up every year, without fail, like the falling of the temps in Minnesota, or the raising of the tops in New Orleans. Every year there is one guy, at least, on the bench who one or more posters believes should get that chance, because so and so isn't playing really well. Last year, for example, it would have been Wolf for either AD or AO. The problem, young fella, is that you're overlooking the fact that he gets a chance every day to prove he is a good back up. In practice. And I can assure you, without even a lick of first hand knowledge, that Ollie and the other coaches are watching most closely for any player to demonstrate in practice the metal that is required for Big East game play. No worries then. He'll continue to have the chance - we don't need to watch him come into a game and and get overwhelmed to verify it.

Um. I'm going to encourage you to use your imagination; Allen could play a lot worse than RJ. Bank on it.

Evans was not that bad against Pitt...he had an impressive steal and a strong rebound. He is struggling to finish inside against BE quality big men, but he will get better

what your saying is true, but evans has done next to nothing. But we can't be sure in game if allen is worse than Evans untill ollie and the fans see him

Ollie sees these kids everyday at practice. If Ollie thought Allen could help, he would be in there.

Allen has gotten a few minutes here and there over the past two years. None of which lead me to believe he could contribute anything meaningful to the Huskies.

RJ made several meaningful contributions early in the season against lesser competition. Something Allen has never done.

I agree with giving him a chance maybe but IMO I don't think it will do any good. R.J. Evans is a better basketball player and more experienced basketball player than Brendan Allen.

Dont forget the 2 points Allen scored against Cinci last season driving along the baseline when it seemed like our offense couldn't get anything done in the 1st half.. ha-ha! :D

We gave him a scholarship, so I want to see him get some minutes. To just keep him out of game action after granting him the scholarship is like buying a car but never taking it out of the lot.

I'm good with giving him a chance!!........I love RJ, great teammate and a tough kid.........but he has proven to be overmatched as of late and slow on both ends...........have no issues with anyone looking to get Allen a few minutes!

I just hope Allen doesn't eat up another scholarship next year. And I mean no disrespect to him. From all we've heard he is a good student, practice player, and person but he is not even close to UConn level (at least based on the past 30 years). I'm ok with him having a scholarship this year, but next year he should go back to walk on status.

KO threw him a bone this year because we had the extra schollie. Otherwise, he is a walk-on, and not even close to Evans' level.

His reasons for walking on here were slightly different than Drummonds

Drummond as a walk-on is an aberration. Most walk-ons are players who would not be given a scholarship at a major program. They fight hard in workouts, and are allowed to practice with the team, but are given spot up duty in blowouts. At least at a program like UConn's.

Last year, the guy was Giffey. I know because I was a guilty party - I probably was asking for him the most. In hindsight, I admit I was off. He provides a good spark here and there, but still isn't the consistent glue guy I hoped he could be. He's better this year, but it's taken him another half season, and he still tends to blend in a bit too much and allow himself to be a non-factor.

It's so frustrating because he was finishing so strong in the beginning of the year and now he can't drive without getting stripped/getting blocked/falling over/committing a charge. Even if he draws a foul that may as well be a turnover.

Just looked up RJ's bio. He is listed as only 210 lbs. That has be to be about 20 lbs off.

Again not hammering on RJ he's a great kid, glad he's living his dream and he stepped up when others didnt want to be in Storrs any more!! That goes a long way, and the kid is not "fat" at all just built like a fire hydrant and strong. His speed has been suspect vs some very fast and talented teams but it does not mean he can't still help. Having said that Allen is not a bad player, has some quickness and while I wouldn't say "do it" , those who think it's nuts to ask why he isn't getting a shot are being a bit close minded. After all if I don't really know if he can help how would you ? Yeah the easy answer is KO would put him in but we all know otherwise!! Loyalty!!!

Hey you gotta remember not too long ago we had a walk-on that got a scholarship by the name of Kyle Bailey and he never saw any action either. Coach Ollie threw Allen a Bone this year. I myself said this before the season on this board that RJ Evans is a waste of time!
