I'm not Jewish, but if I may, here's the answer to this one, thanks to 10 seconds of Internet research so I could properly recall the reason:
It is a practice adopted by some Jewish people. You see it here at the BY from time to time, and in other places as well. The reason? "Often Jewish publications will write G‑d without the "o" instead of spelling the word properly. The Torah (Deuteronomy 12:4) prohibits us from erasing, destroying or desecrating the name of G‑d. G‑d has seven names in Hebrew that are considered holy and forbidden to destroy or erase."

I didn't want to step on the toes of my Jewish friends here, especially as Passover arrives, but at various times in my life I have had friends who adopted this practice, and posting a description was, as they say, a layup.
