Kind of interesting article where they go through all 20 players and talk about their recruiting ranking and how they ended up at the schools they did. A lot of us say a recruit's ranking isn't the be all end all of their potential impact in college. This is a perfect example.
As you would expect, the vast majority of the 20 person list is made up of four and five-star recruits.
Of the 20, six were considered five-star recruits coming out of high school, nine were considered four-star recruits, four were considered three-star recruits, and then one member was an unranked prospect who was off the radar.
JAMES BOUKNIGHT
247Sports Composite: No. 66 overall, 4-star, class of 2019
Though he ultimately ended up being highly regard and was someone who saw his recruitment get very busy, it wasn’t always that way for the supremely athletic James Bouknight. A wing with athleticism and skill, Bouknight showed promise early in his high school career, but then things got derailed.
Bouknight suffered a serious leg injury which took away his junior year, leaving him under the under the radar as he went into his 17-and under summer with the PSA Cardinals.
At the same time, Danny Hurley made the move from Rhode Island to Connecticut. Hurley, who was recruiting Bouknight harder than anybody as the head coach of the Rams, never stopped recruiting him, even as he transitioned from Rhode Island to UConn.
Ultimately, that proved to be huge. Bouknight made it clear throughout his recruitment that he wanted to reward schools that stuck with him during the injury.
Even though technically Connecticut didn’t stick with him, Hurley and his staff did. Because of that, Bouknight chose the Huskies over Miami, Virginia Tech, Indiana and several other high-major programs.
