In terms of talent and physical strength we need to get better; a lot better. We can't do it all with guards and guard coaches - we need more big and tough mentality.

I've come to the conclusion that the only teams we absolutely need to avoid in a bracket are Florida and Louisville. Maybe Michigan. We can beat or lose to anyone else.

I hope our new strength and conditioning coach can do something to help in this area. We can't keep sending out the parade of string beans in the front court and think we aren't gonna see results like this in big games. No one in our front court can hold their ground when an opponent backs down. All our front court players struggle to locate and get to rebounds. All our front court players get the ball knocked out of their hands too easily. The whole team struggles to beat opponents to loose balls. The one early in the 2nd half when we looked like we had a chance took the air out of the team. Someday I hope our frontcourt players learn to stay with a guy like Harrell as job one instead of leaving him, or not locating him in the first place, getting caught in no man's land and giving up monster dunks.

To me, the only conclusion I got from today's game is that these kids went into the Yum Center expecting to lose. No other way to put it. No one in America is 40 points better than us. To lose the way we did todayhas more to do with effort, heart and hunger and less to do with coaching. This one is on the ones actually playing.

That's no more than effort. It comes and goes with these guys. It was there against Cincinnati. Today I watched guys stare at Shabazz take the ball to the rack and then stand there when the ball came loose and there were 3 white jerseys on top of it.

Herrell should not be beating guys back down the floor after made buckets for uncontested dunks.

As far as effort, Louisville had time to text before they shot their 3's today, wide open all day.

Herbst should show some balls and personally hire Vaughan back.
Vaughn should show some balls and hire Gloria Allred as his agent and tell her to make this happen.

not only do we need to get bigger we need someone who can actually coach the bigs because whoever is coaching them is doing a poor job, cant rebound, can't box out, can't bang cant post op the bigs coach had 2 years and theres zero progress nada prefect example is tyler regression year after year. Talent is one thing but discipline is another our big dont have to a freakish athlete as lebron or whoever to know how to box out.

Don't understand all the love for Vaughn. Anyone who thinks we would be better off with him as an assistant coach just isn't thinking about the total situation. CV gave us 2 good years. He made his bed (pun intended) so we all need to move on.

Barely anyone would notice but like a few hundred of us would be thrilled

I don't think so. I think a couple dozen boneyarders would be ecstatic and the rest of us and the state of CT would be embarrassed. He gets 10 years credit for 2 years work from you guys.
Plus you seem to forget that Drummond, Smith & Oriakhi left us and it was hard to recruit being banned from tournament play. Brimah was the best we could do this year and he will be fine

Drummond would still be in the NBA
Oriakhi would still have graduated
Roscoe wouldn't have helped

Nolan sucks

Amazed me that Hancock got 3 open looks in a row basically……..just the way he plays I would guess as a player you couldn't stand him on the other team so guard the crap out of him!! No one stepped up to do so….

We won the rebound battle 40-39 so that wasn't the reason we got hammered. We lost because we couldn't score against their zone and when our guards drove the lane they either didn't convert or turned it over. A lot of those TOs turned into Louisville points. They also shot 45% to our 13% from 3 pt. range. Agree with you about front court players staying with their man and getting backed down. Tyler is our only big with beef and he has other issues. I actually thought Daniels had a pretty good game.
No way to put lipstick on this loss because it was bad. It is still only one game and no matter what happens in the AAC tournament we are going to the NCAAs and anything can happen. Well, a NCC championship isn't going to happen but depending upon matchups we could make it to the Sweet 16. There are really only a half dozen teams where we would be prohibitive underdogs. At this point I'd be happy making it that far.

The basketball team gets noticeably bigger next year in the back court. Adding Cassell Jr and Purvis gets us some muscle and Samuel is a big guard too.

I'm not dismissing this years team, but by next year, UConn will be big at most positions.

Phil is only 8-10 lbs of good muscle away from being above average weight for a PF. 230 lbs is plenty enough muscle for Phil. Amidah is two years away from good size but if he can get above 225, he'll be serviceable. The muscle and the strength needs to be in the legs. Lots of squats. These guys have to be able to get position and hold position from the thighs on down.

There's hope.

True (except Roscoe would help a lot)
But you are ignoring what put us in this situation. 1 year ago, 2 years ago, we were facing irrelevance. We aren't back yet but we are headed in the right direction.
Pretty sure JC recruited Nolan

Defending Louisville is simple but not easy. You have to sprint back on defense to the three point line, have your guards and wings identify shooters and have you bigs establish defensive position before L'ville gets there. And then you have to move your feet for the entire possession, close out on shooters, establish rebounding position and hold it.

Simple but not easy. Any breakdowns and they will break you.

Sorry the dude could recruit, kick butt and get out there and demonstrate post play.

Rasheed Wallace is doing a great job with Andre D. We need talent and muscle and someone who can get out there and demonstrate post play. Quite frankly, bigs don't learn from talking they learn from doing. Not sure if Miller gets that.
