On Diallo:
Among UConn’s prime targets on Putnam is multi-talented wingman Hamidou Diallo. Diallo is listed as Class of 2017, but he will graduate from PSA this spring, meaning he could reclassify. Espinosa, however, said there’s about a “one percent chance” of that happening at this point.
other 2017 targets:
From Mass Rivals, the Huskies are working hard on Makai Ashton-Langford, a long, 6-2 Class of 2017 point guard from the Worcester, Massachusetts, area who plays at Cushing Academy. The interest seems mutual, according to Mass Rivals coach Vin Pastore.
“When you grow up a kid in New England and you’re an athletic, shifty point guard, you tend to have an interest in UConn,” said Pastore, who coached current freshman point guard Jalen Adams.
Pastore said the difference between Adams and Ashton-Langford is the latter has been a “natural point guard since a younger age,” while Adams is more of a combo guard.
The Huskies also will keep an eye on Aaron Wheeler, a 6-7 Class of 2017 wing who hails from Stamford and plays at St. Andrew’s School in Barrington, Rhode Island. He’s an “athletic, graceful player with a nice stroke, who is growing into his body,” according to Pastore.
2018 targets:
UConn has also shown interest in a pair of Class of 2018 talents from PSA: 7-2 Nigerian center Manny Umoffia and 6-4 point guard Eric Ayala.
The Huskies also like a pair of Class of 2018 Mass Rivals players: A.J. Reeves, a 6-4 guard who’s been offered by Providence and Boston College, and Taelon Martin, another long, 6-2 point guard.
