Boston College will never have New England to itself if Ryans keeps mentioning UConn. :)

Load of crap imo. To omit mention of UConn and Calhoun, whether intentionally or not, is poor journalism. And to say that Boeheim "never disappoints" pretty much proves that the guy doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to college hoops. Ryan should stick to what he knows, which is Boston sports, and is not college hoops. The two are mutually exclusive.

Maybe, but he's written some phenomenal pieces on the NCAA tournament.

People on here are way too sensitive.

From the comments:

Boston College had a chance in the 80's to sell its soul to the basketball devil. Jim Calhoun wanted the Boston College job but it was not offered to him. The University made a decision at that point to avoid the "win at all cost" - type of coach. Which was a very good decision.

Great point except UConn didn't win it's first NC until 1999. It was late 80's that we won the NIT. At the both Connecticut and Calhoun had an absolutely spotless reputation. But other than that...great point. Sounds to me that "New Englands team" has a little buyers remorse.

Ryan is long past his sell-by date. Used to be really good, now is a complete waste of space.

I live in Boston. Ryan is so irrelevant these days. His writings are rambling and incoherent these days. He's lost his focus and edge. Too many evenings in the gin joints down the street from Morrissey Boulevard

Exactly. Unless a UConn mention was edited out when it went to press unknown to him which happens. But this is hard to believe, because he has known JC all of his working life.

Ryan's about to retire and if he truly believes Calhoun is not in the same class as Izzo and Boeheim, then what does Calhoun have to do? Beat BC 29 games in a row?

in addition to being incompetent, ryan is also the scariest looking man north of the mexican border. as if the joker's doctor got a hold of him.

this is nothing new from the Boston Globe. at least ryan attempts to be subtle. i am still livid at a piece (of ) that shaugnessy wrote several years ago, where he wrote an entire column describing how BC was england, being the only real D1 bb/fb program in the region and all. he lamely concluded the article, after several pages of felating BCU, by stating practically in fine print that he did not consider CT part of new england.

What was the old Mickey Rivers quote? "He's so ugly, he makes your pants wrinkle"?

Al Skinner was a "win at all costs" kind of coach. Just minus the winning. Look at the typical Skinner recruit.

Jim O'Brien?

The coaches there sure recruited some class kids, eh? Point-shaving... such nice kids.

That article pretty much sucked. The last paragraph was embarassing when he pretty much wrote off the drug problems, academic problems, and the fact that a child mollester worked the sidelines for 35 years. But yeah, no worse than 90% of the heavy hitters.

No depth to the article but a Ryan will soon be caught up in the coming Bobby Valentine fiasco taking place in his backyard all summer long. He won't be giving college hoops a thought for another year.

Absurd. For all that talent he has had and considering hes been there 30 years, he sure has little to show for it for a coach who "always has his team ready". What a joke. Cuse is known as being a team that chokes. Everyone knows it when they fill their brackets out every year.

Im not so concerned that he left us and Calhoun out of the article (although we all know that was dumb). Im offended that his premise is completely wrong. Since when does Cuse exceed expectations in the tournament?
