Honestly think he's ready to assert his rightful place in the lineage among the Uconn pg greats… AJ -> Kemba -> Bazz -> Boat. Looked amazing tonight. If he plays like this consistently he will be 1st team AA and we have a legit shot to repeat. He was efficient with his shot (7-14) perfect as usual from the line 7-7. 8 boards, 5 dimes and 4 steals and he's our best defensive backcourt player since Ricky Moore…. a true all-around game. Love this kids development. Always moving forward.. getting better year over year. Can't wait to see where he takes us this year.

Loved his interview with SNY after the game. Paraphrasing here:

Question 1: what stood out about his game?

Answer 1: his turnovers. He said he had too many (only 3) and needed to do better controlling the ball.

Question 2: what sparked the offense?
answer 2: defensive intensity

Last question: what do you guys want to improve on before Puerto Rico?
Answer: "everything"... And then something along the lines "it's a process and we need to get better every game."

Really starting to sound like Ollie's general on the floor. I think he's going to have a great great year!

I remember after Boat made one of his threes he slammed his chest and then pointed at his mom....idk just seemed like such an awesome moment.

like I said before we're going to need 22 points plus from him every game. Right now he's the only player we have who can create his own shot (yet to be seen if d ham or purv can).

Boats best regular season game…
  • Great Defense
  • Big open court steals
  • Leadership
  • Stat filler game
    • points
    • boards
    • assists
    • steals
    • blocks
Real nice start to the season for the captain.

The most remarkable thing about Boat: dude played nearly the entire game, played at 100% the whole time he was out there and didn't break a sweat or even seem to be breathing heavy. I was lucky enough to pick up seats right behind the Bryant bench from a scalper just before tip-off and the difference in conditioning was very evident down the stretch. Our guys were absolutely ferocious on D, ballhawking, rotating, etc and you could see it on the faces of the Bulldogs that they just couldn't keep up. Boat and TSam didn't stop moving the entire second half and both guys looked like they were ready to go another for another full game when the buzzer sounded.

Saw you on TV.

The best game hes had in a uconn uniform. He was absolutely awesome tonight even with a bit of a slow start. Played like a national player of the year candidate. He is going to be great this year.

Missing Shabazz: Defending champion UConn trails Bryant, 42-39, about 5 minutes into the second half.

@PatBradleyNDN @MacCerullo Big difference between Napier and Boat.
We'll see. I remember most people--myself included--thinking Bazz was no Kemba. He proved me and a lot of others wrong. I've loved Boat since day one and have been eager to see what he does when he is the alpha. I think sublimating himself last season and returning for this one may turn out to be the best thing that ever happened for him as a player and as a man.

Best part was his points came in the flow of the game. He got others involved & never tried to be a one man show.

Was worried he'd try to force things but when things were going bad in the game he remained calm, played tough D & it seemed contagious.

He's got to put his mark on these guys so they think with one brain. It will take time. Hamilton, great player though he is going to be, was lost on defense. We'll learn a lot in Puerto Rico.

Totally agree… PR will be a great experience for this group…

This team will certainly get lumped up at times this year, but that defensive performance in the second half was very encouraging. They need to build on that.

That play late where Boat busted hump, tracking down the Bryant guy from behind, taking the ball away with UConn ending up with a dunk displayed the relentlessness we hoped would carry over from last year. That entire play was great, Jr. with the pass and Brimah with the hustle and finish. Top Play-worthy, anyone know if it made the list?
