Lew Perkins and Tom Jackson. Jackson resigned 3 days after the 1993 season ended. Interesting article to read today. 1993 was also the last time we lost to Towson.

Lew, over the years, proved himself to be an effective AD. He hired a young gun to coach UCONN football, in Skip Holtz, that took over what had been a very successful 1-AA football program at UCONN up until Jackson started going .500 or below in the early 90s and pushed us up to our still only double digit win season in our 100+ year history in 1998.

He oversaw the move in football from 1-AA to 1-A . He picked among some big time names, to come up with a nobody in Randy Edsall - that turned out to be the perfect guy for the job after Holtz packed up and left for South Carolina on New Year's 1998-1999.

When the going got tough, and the management at UCONN in other areas changed - he was smart enough to take off for greener pastures in the Midwest.

All of us want answers now. We want to win now. I have no confidence in anyone's words anymore - whether it be a president, athletic director, board of trustee member (congrats Donny Marshall) or a football coach. I want to see what kinds of actions occur over the next days/weeks/months.

We've come a hell of a long way from where this university was in 1989. I want to see where our leaders take us now.

Everybody enjoy your labor days! Summer is officially over, and it's football season for sure.

The good news is that UConn has had some very effective leaders, planners and decision makers who moved us from the days of 1989 to present-day possibilities. We've also had some dreadful leaders, coaches and decision makers who have been unable to keep the various sports programs firmly ensconced on a respected level. The bad news is that those who have made the final decisions as to replacement of coaching and AD staff incumbent decision makers have been unable to recognize those potential leaders, coaches, etc. who are abysmally devoid of the talent required to keep the upward climb to excellence moving. The was absolutely no reason to replace Big Lou with his deputy Jeff. Nor could PP's tired resume and reputation which simply screamed with obsolescence describe a coach who could keep UConn's football aspirations on a continuing upward trend. Don't blame the PPs and GDs of the world for our problems; they were simply the pawns. Blame the folks who placed them in positions they now hold.

In retrospect, a man named Burton probably should have been acknowledged.

Burton being 100% right is part of what makes this frustrating. It's too bad we have to waste such a great schedule, one we may not see again for a long time, with this scab of a coaching staff. It seems like P and GDL are just mailing it in. They're showing the kind of effort usually reserved for high school seniors after they've taken their last final.

Just need to take issue with the idea UConn was ever a very successful 1AA program. We had some good years in the 60's and early 70's (college division). By the time 1AA came around in the late 70's, we were pretty bad, especially under Walt Nadzack. We only made the 1aa playoffs once, under Holtz.

I knew some yahoo would harp on the word 'very' I put in there as soon as Iposted that and read through it. I didn't pull a Desmond Conner though - it's still there. Bottom line is that the 1980s were one the greatest periods of successfull football that exists in our history. THe majority of our college all americans came from that decade. We shared or won, at least three, and I think maybe four conference titles, but we couldn't get over the hump to get qualified for the 1-AA playoffs because we actually had some good competition in that level of football - that post season next level of success didn't happen until the later 1990s. THen we went to 1-A, and struggled, and then started winning, and going to bowl games and winning them.

Bottom line is that UCONN football, while a middling sub .500 program all time, aside from a short period of time at the end of Tom Jacksons's term, and then the beginning of Randy Edsall's term, and so far all of Paul Pasqualoni's term - has been a WINNING program, that competes for conference titles and post season appearances.

Anything less is just unacceptable. We've still got 11 games to play, but my faith is completely rocked based on what my eyes see as of Aug. 30, 2013.

I'll be there on the 14th again, to see what they bring to the table next.

Here's our won-lost records (taken from wikepedia, so beware) for all seasons we won or shared a conference championship. I count two decent years in the 80's when we were 8-3 overall. If I'm a yahoo it's because I'm one of the few people who bothered to read and respond to one of your posts.

1952† Yankee Conference 5-3 3-1
1956 Yankee Conference 6-2-1 3-0-1

1958 Yankee Conference 7-3 4-0
1959 Yankee Conference 6-3 4-0
1960† Yankee Conference 5-4 3-1
1968† Yankee Conference 4-6 4-1
1970 Yankee Conference 4-4-2 4-0-1

Randy Edsall record as head coach: 74-70 (20-23)
Skip Holtz record as head coach: 34-23 (22-18)
Tom Jackson record as head coach: 62-57 (43-35)

That's the W-L record going back to 1983, and our previous 3 coaches over those 30 years prior to Pasqualoni.

170-150 overall, and 85-76 conference games, It's not Michigan winnign percentage football, but .534 is winning over 30 years.

Those three guys- Jackson, Holtz and Edsall have a combined 170-150 record. THe overall record for UCONN all time is: 480-503 including Thursdays debacle.

That means that since 1896, minus the 28 years from '83-'10, we are 310-353 overall W/L (.467)

Call me crazy, but my entire life around UConn football, has been above .500, has involved the most successful seasons in the history of the program, and the most wins consistently in the history of the program, and Pasqauloni is threatening that, and it pisses me off, and yes - I embellish when I write, it's part of what makes writing creative, and fun, and this isn't an encyclopedia editing workshop writing around here, so if you feel the need to do what you do, fine. I knew when I wrote 'very successful' or whatever, it was what it was, and I knew somebody would respond the way you did, whether you believe that or not, I don't care.

We were very good, on the field in the late 1980s, and we were very good on the field in late 1990s, and we were very good on the field in the late 00's. I don't want to wait until the late '10's to be very good on the field again.
