The menu of options for how Congress may reshape college sports grew again Wednesday with the introduction of a new federal bill that creates new protections and opportunities for college athletes while clearly defining them as students rather than employees.

If Moran's bill is passed, athletes would be able to hire representation and sign endorsement deals. The athletes would not be allowed to endorse products during or immediately before and after team events.

Athletes would be allowed to transfer to a new school at least one time without penalty as long as they don't transfer during their sport's season or in the 60 days leading up to the start of the season. Athletes could also return to school after entering a professional draft as long as they don't sign with a pro team. They would have one week to decide if they want to return to school after the draft.

Hmm, the federal government legislating what the NCAA can and cannot do.
How can this not be considered a political topic? Just curious.

This is about the 7th NIL bill introduced in the US Congress. But the Kansas dude is taking it to the next level, exercising his congressional right to include regulations that have nothing to do with the original intent:

1) As Carnac pointed out, regulating athlete transfer rules, and...

2) Requiring athletic departments who earn more than $20 million per year to provide 100% health insurance coverage to their athletes for 2 years after they graduate. AND requiring departments who earn $50+ million to provide that coverage for FOUR years. This would make the rich athletic depts more attractive to recruits. And it would make the richest schools the MOST attractive (because they’re not already...??).

Write your congressperson and ask them to vote for this! I mean who doesn’t love it when the rich get richer? Nick Saban said that in the pros the worst team gets the first draft pick, but in college the BEST team gets the first TEN picks. So let’s make some Federal laws to strengthen this even further. Yeah!
