The Big East looks like it is getting a bit more respect this year
2022
4 teams in the NCAAs--UConn, Creighton, DePaul, and Villanova
2 teams in WNIT--Seton Hall and Marquette
2021
1 team in the NCAAs--UConn
3 teams in WNIT--Creighton, DePaul, and Villanova

As a side note, with Villanova into the NCAA's, all of our losses were to Tournament teams. the last tie we lost to a team that was not invited to the NCAAs was 1996--Syracuse.

I have all BIG EAST teams as winners in my two brackets:
NCAA and WNIT. (at least for one round). I next looked
at whom our Big East friends would be playing against:
Dayton, Colorado, BYU ( ouch! was that a 17 and 1 record to
finish out the season? ) , Fairleigh Dickenson,
and Ball State: I checked out
their won-lose records, opponents that they won against, roster
heights, ppg, fg %, 3 point %, rebounding. Anyone think
that my bracket was too ambitious??? GO BIG EAST!
LOYALITY OVER REASON! Win one for the Gipper!

We're going to elevate the NBE just like we did the original BE

Oddly enough, based on the eye test-I actually think Marquette is the second best team in the BE.

It is definitely trending in the right direction, gaining 4 bids. But when comparing to prior years, I’m keeping in mind that under the 64 team format, we would have only gotten 3 bids this year, with one being virtually the last team in.

In 2019, Marquette was a 5 seed and DePaul a 6. We need those programs return to those seed lines. This year it is still basically Uconn and then 3 bubble teams.

Good news is that there appears to be some good coaching in the league, so I’d expect continued improvement. Villanova really capitalized on our injuries, and without that win, I don’t think they make it. Kudos to them for taking the opportunity.

The Big East had 2 NCAA teams last year. (Marquette was a 10 seed and lost in the 1st round to Virginia Tech.)

Going from 2 to 4 NCAA teams sounds like a major improvement, but the actual difference in quality is a lot more subtle.

DePaul was one of the last 4 in, which means they wouldn't be in without the expansion to 68 teams. And Creighton and Villanova are 10 and 11 seeds, so themselves were not far from the bubble.

The 10-member Big East got 2 to 4 teams in the NCAAT each year from 2014 to 2019. In that context, 2021 was an all-time low for that group of 10. Also, DePaul and Marquette have both declined since the heyday of their rivalry in the Carolyn Kieger years.
In 2017, Marquette was a 5 seed, and both DePaul and Creighton were 7 seeds.
In 2018, the BE got 4 teams in, led by DePaul as a 5 seed.
In 2019, Marquette and DePaul got 5 and 6 seeds, but no one else got in.
In 2020, DePaul was a projected 5 seed when the NCAAT was canceled.

Collectively, these teams that were the best of the 2014-2020 iteration of the Big East have not progressed since then.
