Many big clubs in Europe are trying to force through a new Champions League format that guarantees them more group stage games (if they get there).
The proposed format:
Qualifying stays the same, but a seeded Round of 32 will take place, and then two 8-team groups will be formed from the 16 winners. The clubs would play a 14-match double round robin with only the top team advancing to the showpiece final.
Reaction: this is probably a bluff by the big clubs to get more money from UEFA seeing as this proposal would be deemed moronic by even children. Taking a risk that your biggest clubs might not even reach the lucrative group stage in a two-legged tie is bad, but then have a 14-game group stage where most of the games will be meaningless due to at most three teams per group fighting for top spot is beyond senile.
Ultimately, I hope this proposal gets canned as soon as possible as the Champions League is perfect the way it is.
