Great game for Phil. We don't win without his defense.

Agreed. Had his usual share of mistakes and W-T-Fness but came up big on D and the boards. Clearly doesn't want his UCONN career to end.

I had shades of Jake and Freeman closing down on Elton Brand. Scott was there to do work today, and they contained him enough for us to take control of the game. Nolan really impressed me today. He's still not a star, but he's doing the things he was doing late in the 2014 season again. I don't know if we can contain Kansas inside, but if we do, he's going to be a big part of it.

His individual defense was outstanding against Scott. Yes, Scott got his, but with Nolan down there we rarely needed to double/over-help and leave their shooters open. The only way we were in trouble was if they got open looks from outside; Phil prevented that.

Also, props to KO for designing the defense so that when we did double, it was big-to-big, leaving our guards plastered to the perimeter to prevent the open 3's.

He's a senior and did what was asked of him. That's a compliment!

He was awesome against Michigan State in elite 8 too.

True, he did. I guess given what he's done (or not done) this year, I just didn't expect much of anything.

My Man! For those who have never heard him speak, this is old but relevant today.

KO and staff understand defense as the key. We actually have enough offense, defense brought today's game back. Now Sat we need it from minute 1.

So, Phil had a stat line that includes 0 shots, 0 FT, 0 points, 2 rebounds, 4 PF, 2 A, 1 TO, 0 blocks, 0 steals in 18 mins. played. And he is universally praised for his GREAT game!!! It goes to show all you stat freaks that there is more to BB than stats!!!!

If Nolan can channel his inner Jake Voskuhl goaltending skills, we might be able to do some things against Kansas.
