the big 12 is kansas, maybe oklahoma, baylor. what made texas get rid of a great coach?

football mentality

Texas wasn't doing that great while he was there. Seems to be some kind of systemic issue at Texas that they consistently underachieve in basketball given the resources they should have available.

This. He underperformed there.

And football

University of Texas is the modern version of the Yankees.

Unlimited resources and the biggest brand name in college sports. And they have zero - ZERO - results to show for it.
Kind of like Notre Dame

Shaka kept losing in the first round. He was given many years by Texas to produce but failed. From Texas’ pov, it’s good Shaka is at Marquette where he can now lose there in the first round.

At least 1/3 of this board thought Hurley was an underachieving coach as of Jan of this year. What kind of mentality was that? There were posts to fire Hurley at halftime of the Iona game, Is that Big East mentality?

Go back and look at the embarrassing display by this board following the New Mexico State game and Maryland game, this die hard football fan was swimming upstream defending Hurley both times.

Don't blame football.

It was a pathetic display by fans that are needy.

It’s not exclusive to any one entity. Most of us can’t be satisfied with what is. We’re in constant need for more. Just another form of addictive behavior.

My personal favorite is when someone argues their vitriol is purely about standards. That’s a classic deflection. It’s exclusively about the person crying. That same individual would be dancing on the grave of a program they hated if their standards were destroyed. Think Syracuse and Boeheim for instance.

It would be called out as a human weakness if the group wasn’t so large and reinforcing itself.

Well both Shaka and Texas basketball are doing better since, so maybe it just wasn't a fit. He's a talented coach, but he may not have resonated with kids who were interested in UT.
