Big 12 commish/UConn fanboy Brett Yormark signs 3-year extension

A framework of any bill was expected to include three main concepts: (1) a limited antitrust protection that, in part, codifies the House settlement to allow the NCAA and power conferences to enforce eligibility and transfer rules, as well as rules around the new revenue-sharing structure; (2) a clause deeming athletes as students and not employees, with a possible sunset on that provision after a set number of years; and (3) pre-emption of existing NIL state laws, many of which contradict the settlement and/or NCAA rules.

remember, if Rutgers got into the Big 10 with their record thoughout the years, one season record won't make a difference here. Either they want us or don't. The problem was they weren't letting football in until 2031

Did UConn ever get that accreditation they were going for? Rutgers had it I think there was the thought that the accreditation was the reason.

AAU? No.

UConn is a Carnegie R1 university, however.

It feels like it’s now or never. AD Dave needs to view this as a three year sprint to get into the Big 12. The team needs to win games and the school needs to show a sustained financial commitment to P4 Level Football. The landscape could be turned on its head again around 2030. It would be ideal to be safely aboard The Big 12 Ship as opposed to sweating out the ACC providing you a life raft.

And the Rent needs to be packed!!

I don't think it was a problem for UConn; although not desirable. UConn would have taken that deal. Yormark tried to do a work around because of UConn's football record, but couldn't sell the Big 12 Presidents. They didn't see a pressing need to add UConn, especially since they had just added four schools.

Thoughts on some of the messages in the thread…

because of our strength of schedule this year, going undefeated will not get us into the playoff unless we beat another playoff bound team (likely convincingly). There are no obvious candidates on our schedule.

However, if we were to go undefeated in 2026, that actually might get us in.

I think we have to have AT LEAST 8 wins this year to sustain momentum, but next year is our proof of concept year. Is the program improving? Can we put together three good seasons in a row AND do it against good competition? I think if we win 8 games the next two years, that will be huge.

This year is about sustaining momentum. Next year is put up or shut up time.
