In other words, the triumph of hope over experience. Ask Kelsey Bone how that approach worked out for her at South Carolina.First in a series of hopeful dominoes, that if they fall could land them A'ja.
Anything is possible.
Trust me, I want Aja at UCONN, but if she chooses to go somewhere else I hope it's South Carolina. I would love to see Staley in the FF as a coach.
One great player is not going to put South Carolina in the final four.
It could?? With seeding and geography? Why not? Besides, I'm not counting out Staley. She has done very well there with what she has. So adding a few more pieces could very well. They already have some great guards and Coates. Add in Wilson and even White??? I think it's possible. No one saw California or Louisville in the FF last year but they were.

Sorry, but I think that it is completely unclear that Staley is a coach that is capable of any of that.

I agree, Ice. I am very unsure of her skill set as a coach.
As for the goal of getting to the final four, I agree Wonk -- look how insignificant an accomplishment it was for UConn in 1991.

And there they died.
That wouldn't help winning the WOMEN'S national championship.Doesn't matter a bit; if you're fantasizing, there are no obstacles to overcome. Every improbable thing goes your way, there are no injuries, and everyone on your team suddenly becomes Pete Maravich.
I agree. UNC has a wealth of talent on their team - a bunch of top 20 kids. As a fan of hoops, I'd normally be rooting for Staley to land some quality kids. As a fan of UCONN who is in a dogfight for the undisputed #1 player in the class with SC, I hope they don't land anyone else.I think it is going to be very interesting to watch what develops at NORTH Carolina. A wealth of frosh talent, thanks to DD, but how will it be developed and used? Not to be ugly, but based on what I have seen, having the assistants handle the team may actually turn out to be an advantage. Personally, I will be surprised to see this crop make any final fours.

South Carolina is a team that was a cellar dweller in the SEC just a few years ago. In the past two seasons, they have won 3 NCAA tournament games. They had 0 in ten years prior. Staley has that program moving in the right direction . A lot of players will find that attractive, especially when it is a Hall of Famer (as a player) waving that scholarship offer at you.
Staley was a very good player, and is creating a good atmosphere at South Carolina.I have to agree with Icebear here, though, and add that it takes a little luck and good talent and good coaching to get to the final four. Staley hasn't had enough time to impress as a coach, yet, and even with high end talent she may recruit,it still doesn't mean that the best they could be comes out without the coaching to draw that kind of talent.Maybe in several more years,we can look at Staley and her staff and say they are really good at what they do,but not with the time already in the books. Some coaches stand the test of time, some end up being flashes in the pan.Only time will tell.

I am not sure- NC reminds me of the young and talented Maryland team that jelled and won Nat Championship- they looked like a short term dynasty and then petered out. They are super athletic- they are a real dangerous wild card IMO !I think it is going to be very interesting to watch what develops at NORTH Carolina. 50 wins. With one of the worst OOC schedules for a top 20 team you will find.I'm surprised myself at how many are discounting Staley. Just a couple of seasons ago she was coaching in the Sweet 16 with one of the most undersized teams you'll find, and her team still gave Stanford a much better fight than Dook did in the following round. 50 wins over two seasons at South Carolina? Yeah, she's doing a fine job.

As a four seed, Staleys team lost in the second round to a 12 seed.
Yeah, she's doing a fine job.
