I read Brittney Griner's book when I was out of town last weekend. I had been looking forward to reading it and I really enjoyed it. There was certainly a lot going on behind the scenes that the public wasn't aware of. But it was a great story of persevering through hard times and coming out stronger(something I've done much of in my own life).

Side note: the trip was to Palo Alto to visit a good friend. Got to see a little bit of Stanford's campus. Very pretty place!

I haven't read the book yet, but from everything I've heard, my admiration and respect for Brittney has been enhanced immensely in recent times. I hope she has a great professional career, realizes Olympic glory, and thereby embodies the American Dream.

There certainly was a lot going on behind the scenes. BG had to endure more than the average athlete and I am glad to see her happy in Phoenix. She already looks much more relaxed on the court and better prepared this season.

I was really surprised at how much strife there was between BG and Mulkey, and even more so her dad. He really made life tough for her.

Griner's dad was very strict due to his own life experience so she didn't have a lot of freedom growing up.
That isn't all bad. Her parents were usually sitting in the stands every time I saw her on tv.

I'm not exactly proud of this, but my level of respect for Brittney Griner has been enhanced immensely since she stopped playing against UConn.

It's better explained in the book. And yes, she mentioned her dad went to all her home games at Baylor.

He wasn't just strict, he was mentally abusive and repeatedly told her that he was not going to have "no gay-ass daughter." She actually moved out of their home during her senior year in high school due to his mental abuse where her sexuality was concerned.
