Better “all eyes on the official” moment

What is the better “all about me” sports official moment

  • First base umpire emphatically ringing up a righty on checked swing third strike

  • Trailing referee calling a charge on a fast break at a pivotal moment

There's nothing more annoying to me than a ref who runs down the courtnand punches like tyson furey to call a charge.

Just make the signal, blow the whistle and move on. We get it. It's a charge.

This topic has always been a pet peeve of mine. I don't think a referee can be a showman and still officiate as objectively as he or she would without the showboating. I am sure they would disagree with me, but I think they are ignoring the limitations of the human mind.

And don't get me started on this guy!

The better baseball one is the umpire with the overly active called third strike motion

Hey, Hockey, Soccer and Football have refs too.
I could add “judgment call PI” and the ref LAUNCHES the yellow beanbag erasing any doubt whether that was a penalty

I can tolerate the umpire more because:

  • it's more part of the culture of the game.
  • there's a higher chance the ump can see the correct call than the trailing ref seeing a foul (assuming the offensive player's back is facing the ref).
