Yes he was, Blaney was also acting head coach when Calhoun was out with prostate cancer in 2003 as well as some games here and there that JC had to miss for a variety of reasons.Wasn't he acting head coach for a stretch during JC's final season?

Hugh Greer. He'd probably get my vote as well though it close between him and Shabel. Dee Rowe gets the nicest guy award though. He'd do anything he could to help anyone. Genuinely a super nice guy.Although George Greer was a very respected and beloved coach
My brother was friends with his son, nice guy.Fred Shabel with no doubt about it.
