Hey Guys, Kemba & Shabazz were probably the best short guys (or players) ever to play at Storrs. But Bobby Boyd could put up points faster than any other Husky ever, besides The Poughkeepsie Popper, Wes Bialosuknia. Bobby Boyd was a Guard for the UConn Huskies from 1968 – 1971. He's a member of the UConn Basketball All Century Ballot; he was a 1,000 point scorer, a two-time team Most Valuable Player, and in 2004 was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Bobby was 5'9" or 5'10", but by far faster than everyone else running on that green rubber composite Field Field House court. He loved to make opposing 'bigs' look really bad in the paint. Plus he could go on hot streaks from downtown - years before the three-point line. Sometimes 10 makes in a row from 22-plus-feet out. Bobby is one of UConn's all-time leaders in scoring average (19 ppg. for three years) & scored 23.4 ppg. his junior year ('69). Deadly from the free-throw lone too. As great as guys like Kemba & Bazz were, there actually were a lot of really good hoopsters to come through the UConn program 60-70 years ago. It's just that not many fans who saw them are still here to tell their tales. But I am. And I'm here to tell ya that Bobby Boyd was the real deal at shooting point guard for the Huskies, even at 5'10". Ancient history now. Ha! Father Demo
