Think about it. They didn't break from the CYO. They didn't break from ND.

They slow-played their hand brilliantly.

And everything worked out for Miami, Pitt, SU, BCU, Rutgers, VA Tech, WVU.

All of them ended up more stable and richer positions.

But is there someone I might be forgetting.

None of Miami, VPI or Louisville played in the 2004 Big East. It was a delightful 7 team league - BC, UConn, Pitt, Syracuse, Temple, Rutgers and West Virginia. Somehow there was an 11 way tie for first and Mark May had the deciding vote. They showed him film from 1983 so he actually doesn't know that Pitt lost to Utah by 60 in the Fiesta Bowl.

I actually can't see Tyvon Branch on TV and not remember his fumble to start the first UConn Big East game. I believe if F. Scott Fitzgerald had written the story of UConn football we'd file that kickoff under 'foreshadowing'.
